1. Drive (2011)
Drive is an excellent movie, and it works on all fronts of cinema. Looking for action-packed entertainment about a getaway driver for bank robberies? Check. Looking for a film that's art, with a glass of wine and a cigarette? Check. And that killer soundtrack full of synthwave! It's impossible not to put yourself in the protagonist's shoes while listening to it as you drive. But what ties all these details together and makes the movie work is Ryan Gosling's masterful performance.
And while you might argue that he does nothing but stay silent and unmoved, it's precisely in these kinds of roles, where there's little room to act, that it becomes difficult to express emotions.
