Who Won LoL Worlds? List of League of Legends Worlds Winners

1-9

The true LoL Champions

Amidu Njiemoun Amidu Njiemoun
League of Legends - September 13th 2020, 20:04 GMT+2
Season1 Fnatic
Season 1 (2011): When Fnatic won the first League of Legends Worlds by beating aAa 2-1, hardly anyone knew the game. Nobody would have thought that the small tournament with a prize pool of nearly $100,000 would one day become a mega-event. Nevertheless, the event had over 1.6 million viewers. Fnatic is still the only European team to win the Worlds. (Image credit: Riot Games)
Taipei Assassins Season 2
Season 2 (2012): The Worlds in Season 2 already had completely different dimensions. A five million dollar prize pool and over eight million viewers - the event was also broadcast in 13 languages. The Taipei Assassins won the best-of-five 3-1 against Azubu Frost and took home $1,000,000. (Image credit: Riot Games)
T1 Season 3 1
Season 3 (2013): It was to be the first big year for SKT and Faker - even though they were among the absolute underdogs. If only one knew back then what was still to come... The path to the Season 3 Worlds and its finals were marked by utter Faker dominance. No team could do anything against the team around Faker. SKT won the Worlds 3:0 against the Chinese team Royal Club Huang Zu. (Image credit: Riot Games)

Season 4 (2014): Riot upped the ante: The 2014 Worlds took place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium and 45,000 fans were able to watch the games live. The South Korean team Samsung Galaxy competed against the StarHorn Royal Club. Samsung Galaxy won the best-of-five with 3:1 (Image credit: Riot Games)
T1 Season 5 1
Season 5 (2015): After SKT defeated Fnatic without any problems in the semi-finals, they faced the KOO Tigers in the finals. SKT won the Worlds in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin with 3:1. With "Faker" on the Mid Lane, the team simply seemed unbeatable. Faker was already considered by many to be the best League of Legends player at that time. (Image credit: Riot Games)
T1 Season 6
Season 6 (2016): SKT was in its heyday. There was simply no team that had a chance against them in this phase. Faker won almost every matchup in the middle and they were also superior on all other positions. But this time, the finals were tighter than before: in the end SKT won 3:2 against Samsung Galaxy. When asked if he was the best player ever, Faker said the famous words: "The answer is out there. And you all know it." (Source Riot Games)
Samsung galaxy Season 7
Season 7 (2017): The 2017 finals were special just because of the rivalry between SKT and Samsung Galaxy. Not surprisingly, the a new record number of spectators was set: 380 million individual viewers watched the tournament live or via stream. Samsung Galaxy was able to return the favour for the previous year and won 3:0 against SKT, thus taking the second trophy after their first in 2014 (Source Riot Games).
Invictus Gaming Season 8 1
Season 8 (2018): With Fnatic, a European team finally made it to the finals of the Worlds in 2018. The expectations and the support for Fantic were huge, but the Chinese team Invictus Gaming destroyed their dreams with a ruthless 3-0. After five years of South Korean rule in League of Legends, it was the first time a Chinese team managed to win the Worlds. (Image credit: Riot Games)
FPX Season 9
Season 9 (2019): After G2 won against SKT in the semi-final, they faced FunPlus Phoenix in the final. Caps was on the verge of winning his first Worlds title - just like last year with Fnatic. But FPX did not give G2 a chance. G2 played far below their possibilities and was swept off the stage by FPX with 3:0. Riot was able to double its audience figures compared to 2018 and the LoL Worlds is now unrivalled as the biggest Esports event in the world. (Image credit: Riot Games)
