LoL: Ten Players to Watch for the Worlds Play-Ins

1-10

Who Are We Hoping to Pop Off?

Boyan Penev Boyan Penev
League of Legends - October 3rd 2021, 16:30 GMT+2
Icon2

10. Xie "icon" Tian-Yu - icon comes off a long period playing for Oh My God, a Chinese organization that has languished in the lower half of the LPL for the last few years. However, his move to LNG seems to have revitalized him and he was a big reason why the team fared much better in the play-offs than many expected. The personable veteran will have a trial by fire against Chovy, but if his synergy with Tarzan holds, he can give his superstar rival a run for the money (© LNG Esports).

Husha2

9. Huang "HuSha" Zi-Wei - Beyond’s jungler has been a very active part in their deep run, giving every team in the region a run for their money. With the carry junglers in the current Meta, HuSha might be the best at his position in Group B. If Beyond are able to dominate the jungle as they did in many PCS games, it would be through him (© Beyond Gaming).

Nomanz3

8. Lev "Nomanz" Yakshin - Unicorns of Love’s mid laner has shown his proficiency on the international stage several times, even making it to the Worlds main event in 2020. His team was challenged harder than before in the summer, but Nomanz’ skill in the mid lane and his eclectic champion pool make him a player worth watching. If Nomanz is on point, UoL can do great things (© Riot Games).

Vizicsacsi2

7. Kiss "Vizicsacsi" Tamás - Due to a series of visa issues, Australia’s champions they needed a top laner quick - and they found a very unusual pick in the recently un-retired Vizicsacsi. Long one of the best top lakers in Europe, Csacsi has recently been vocal about his desire to carry and cause havoc - and if he can bring it against his peers in Group A, this will be a huge feather in his cap. That is, however, quite the if (© Riot Games).

Def2

6. Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu - by now, Deft is one of the established veterans of the LCK. He has multiple Worlds playoff appearances for the greater part of a decade - and with his return to form in the regional finals, he should be a force to watch. He makes few mistakes and remains a voice of reason on his team, and he’s one of our players to watch (© Korizon Esports).

Aria4

5. Lee "Aria" Ga-eul - The mid laner of Detonation FocusMe has been wowing Japanese LoL fans with his insane Leblanc and Ryze. At MSI, he led his team to a shocking win against Cloud9 and by pressuring DWG KIA a run for their money. That was with a substitute in the support that wasn’t nearly on the level of the competition. Now his team is at their top and have arguably the more even group. Will Aria show everyone he is a top tier mid-laner not just in the LJL, but in Worlds (© Detonation Gaming)?

PSG Doggo Inven Global

4. Chiu "Doggo" Tzu-Chuan - The Beyond Gaming AD Carry was one of the big surprises at the Mid-Season Invitational shining for PSG Talon despite coming in as a substitute. Now he’s on his own team, backed by partner in crime Kino. Doggo should be the best AD carry in his group and one of the big factors for why Beyond Gaming can contest for the first spot (© Inven Global).

Perkz C9 Riot

3. Luka "Perkz" Perković - The C9 mid laner was probably the best European player in this game before moving over to Cloud9. His time as an AD Carry has added a few spicy pocket picks, some of them like Lucian he can share with Zven. Perkz is a player almost legendary for his leadership and clutch factor - and we believe he can be Cloud9’s ace in the hole in group B (© Riot Games).

Tarzan3

2. Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong - The king of the jungle in the summer playoffs is at worlds - and ready to bonk some heads. The former Griffin jungler is now the star of the LNG roster. With a damage-heavy jungle meta behind him, Tarzan is our pick for the most impressive player to watch in the play-offs.

HLE Chovy HLE1

1. Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon - Chovy has been a superstar before and though it didn’t look like it during parts of the summer, he showed us just what he can do in the regional finals. His control in the mid-lane was immaculate and his duel with Faker in the final was a thing to watch. He is in the running for the best mid if not best player at Worlds - and we don’t envy any mid in the play-ins who has to stand against him. Still, it should definitely be worth watching!
