3. Karthus Lightsbane

You sit at a table, four other players are seated as well, making themselves comfortable. One of them is none other than Karthus. You recognize that shadowy figure anywhere, but you realized he looks completely and utterly out of place in this space. Beside him is a dazzling man with great hair, a large muscled man who – for some reason – is shirtless, and on your left is a big purple hunk of a beast. Seriously, who are these people, and why have they gathered around this large, round table?

"Look at the pretty new dice I got." The purple guy exclaims, pulling out a little baggie and emptying the purple, glittery dice proudly.

Confusion. That's the only thing you feel as you see the odd group of people gather and show off their sets of dice and other small knick-knacks off. That is, until one final member comes in, thick book under one arm and some papers he hands out to everyone.

"I am Karthus Lightsbane! A great magician!" Karthus explains, "I am a dark sorcerer and aspiring lich, looking for the greatest dark magic book." Oh no... you've ended up in the one alternate universe in which Karthus is the biggest DnD nerd... he even distorted his voice to sound deeper and more ominous to fit the character of dark magician. Quickly you rush out, time to make it to another universe that is less... whatever that was. | © Riot Games

2. Infernal Karthus

As you step out into the next universe, you're hit with a hot, dry blast of heat. Your lips are chapped within seconds, eyes burning and mouth completely void of any liquid as the heat encompasses you. Sweat builds along your hairline, a single drop running down your cheek within moments. How could anyone, or anything, inhabit such a horrid world? It's almost like taking steps over the heated surface of the sun.

You hear a rumbling echo through the void wasteland and peer into the far distance to try and make out what had made such a loud noise. You can make out the grand silhouette of a dragon curling around the top of a once snowy mountain.

But then, your dry eyes finally focus on a figure, far more menacing than the dragon. A huge silhouette made out of flames stands by a basin filled with bubbling lava, surrounded by disciples singing and chanting in perfect unison. You watch, holding your breath, as you witness pillars of fire shoot into the skies, obstructing your view of what can only be Infernal Karthus himself. | © Riot Games

1. Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Karthus

Congratulations! You managed to escape the firey world of Infernal Karthus, and survived the nerd fest that was Lightsbane Karthus. Now it's time to let loose at the biggest live-event in all of Runeterra! It's time to witness the first musical act that Riot Games has ever released, and that is none other than the heavy-metal band Pentakill!

You stand in the crowd, heavy guitar riffs reverberating within your chest as the double bass drum sets the quick and heavy rhythm of the music. Fans go crazy beside you, a mosh pit taking hold near the center of the crowd with fans jumping, singing and going crazy. It's been ages since you've seen so many people in one place, enjoying music together. Even if heavy metal isn't your cup of tea, you still enjoy the music and bop your head to the beat.

Then, as the intro comes to an end, none other than Pentakill's lead singer Karthus walks up to the mic, thanks the crowd and begins the set with one of their most famous songs right off the bat. More fans shout, some scream and push forward, excited by the entrance of the singer and the beat of the song. You get swept up within it all, let out your inner 14-year-old and sing along as well.

Karthus... who is he exactly? An undying spirit who brings death upon people? A lost soul who was ripped from his once finite life, only to end up in eternity? So many questions, all about one champion who seems to have one of the most annoying ultimates in all of League of Legends. Seriously, who thought his ult was a good idea and fun mechanic?

But we're not here to lament the gameplay decisions Riot Games makes with some champions. No, today we're back to check out some skins and the universes that the skins come from. Karthus has been around since 2009, so there are bound to be some old and ugly skins in the mix, but also new and unique ones.

Honestly, Karthus' design is pretty cool, so there are many interesting things Riot can do with this champion. Today we're hopping into our universe hopping machine to try and figure out which universes this champion fits best into. With him being an apostle of the undead, it would be quite exciting to see him in a universe which encompasses him in a completely different light. So, now it's time to figure out who Karthus is and what he is capable of!
