Having the early Mario Kart games at the bottom of the list is a testament to Nintendo's quality and how they've managed to refine their product over the years. And speaking of paying tribute, Mario Kart 64 was the one that set the standard for how the franchise would evolve from that point onward. Not only because of the jump to 3D environments but also due to the way different objects interact by adding an extra dimension, and the dynamism created for it. 5. Mario Kart DS

I would love to place Mario Kart DS higher on the list because it's by no means a bad game. The problem is that, of course, the limitations of a portable console make it unable to compete with its siblings. But if you played it, especially with how easy it was to bring the console to friends' houses and play with them, then you surely have golden memories of hours and hours of fun. | © Nintendo

4. Mario Kart Wii

Although it felt a bit strange at first, Mario Kart Wii quickly demonstrated what it was capable of with motion-sensitive controls in a chaotic, adrenaline-pumping racing environment. If you bought the Wii wheel, you know what I'm talking about... | © Nintendo

3. Mario Kart 7

There is some disdain for this Mario Kart title because it was released at a time when another home console entry in the racing series was expected, not one on a handheld like the 3DS. But you know what? Mario Kart 7 makes the most of the technical power of the 3DS, surpassing its predecessor Mario Kart DS, and finally overcoming the limitations of handheld consoles. And although it may hurt some people to hear it, the reality is that it is one of the best Mario Karts they've created, even if it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. | © Nintendo

2. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Oh, here comes the good part. If I were making a subjective list, I’d put Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in the top spot, and that's because of one game-changing element introduced in the GameCube version: Two characters in a single cart. Do you know the kind of chaos, adrenaline, and comedy that ensues when you and your partner do everything you can to beat the CPU racers set on Hard because you're a bunch of masochists? | © Nintendo

1. Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe

I didn’t want to make a distinction between Mario Kart 8 and the Deluxe version, as it's the same game engine with more tracks and characters. But of course, the latest Mario Kart game is Nintendo’s refined version of a formula they’ve been working on for decades. It feels the best in terms of handling, has the best graphics, and although it may not seem like it, it’s the fairest with object interactions, giving us more options to deal with blue shells, as long as you have the skill for it. A game recommended for everyone, and probably one of the best games of all time. | © Nintendo
