Obi Won't: Why Chances For Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Are Near Zero Now

Ever since the Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series launched on Disney+ in May 2022, fans have been hoping for a sequel. But unfortunately, it's now almost sure that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 will never happen.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most popular Star Wars characters of all time, so it was actually only a matter of time until Disney dedicates a series to him. A 6 episode mini-series featuring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master aired in 2022, and many expected it to return at some point.

However, we're in 2024 now, and no announcement was made regarding a second season. And latest news indicate that we'll probably wait forever.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Is Probably Off The Table

Actually, the odds for season 2 were never super high. Recently being asked about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series in an interview at the Film Festival in Goteborg, McGregor emphasized that he "would love to do the second season, but there's no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney".

However, it doesn't look like Disney has any plans for a second season. In a recent blog post, the 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray edition of Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced, being listed as "The Complete Series", strongly indicating that the show won't get any new episodes; especially since Andor is also announced to release as 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray version in the same blog post, being listed as "The Complete First Season".

At least the hypothetical possibility of Kenobi showing up again remains. In 2023, president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy stated that she always hesitates to say "No, we won't do anything more with Obi-Wan Kenobi." There's a possibility that his character could be incorporated into other stories or even a movie.

Despite the possibility, there's currently no fit for Kenobi in the future storytelling that's in place. He's not present in the timeline of any of the future movies, nor is he around for The Mandalorian, The Acolyte, Ahsoka or Skeleton Crew. The only potential place he could show up is during Andor, but that's unlikely for many reasons.

If you're itching for more of Obi-Wan Kenobi, you can stream the only season of the show on Disney+. Who knows – with the endless possibilities of the Star Wars universe, we may see him again in the future.
