A special version of the renowned Godzilla Minus One is coming to Netflix in August. The first ever Godzilla movie to have won an Oscar – which is pretty hard to believe – will be on international streaming services, but Netflix has acquired the rights to a special version of the movie.

Not only will Godzilla Minus One be on Netflix, but the Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color version is the one that will be made available for streaming according to the official Netflix Twitter/X account.

Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color Coming To Streaming Services

Earlier this year, Godzilla Minus One / Minus Color was released in Japanese theaters, with Takashi Yamazaki, the movie's director, revealing how exactly they worked on releasing this version of the movie. Bloody Disgusting translated the director's statement from a few months ago:

Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut by cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes, as if they were creating a new movie. What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography.

So the movie was more than just a recoloring, with the director and developers working to recreate something completely different and unique with the Minus Color version of the film, which is going to be made available on Netflix soon.

We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater.

So, for any movie lovers, you can go and see the film on Netflix starting August 1, 2024. Godzilla Minus One is also the first movie in the entire Godzilla franchise that has managed to win an Oscar, which is a pretty impressive feat, especially when you compare the budget for this movie to some of the other Godzilla films we've gotten.
