Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be released this summer, but the director of the film has warned fans that this isn't a third Deadpool movie. Instead, it's both a Deadpool and Wolverine film. If that isn't true love, then I don't know what is.
Fans who were expecting Deadpool 3 might be disappointed to find out that the next movie featuring the merc with a mouth will not be Deadpool 3. Shawn Levy, director of the upcoming film, sat down with Screenrant at CinemaCon where he explained the vast differences between the two.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release July 24 worldwide and is going to be the first time Ryan Reynolds will don the Deadpool suit for Disney. Hugh Jackman is also reprising his iconic role as Wolverine in this upcoming movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine To Be Distinctly "Its Own Movie"
While most fans would think that the upcoming Deadpool movie is the third in a line of movies, director Shawn Levy has explained that this film is not that. He explained that he wants to bring out the power house cast that has signed onto the project, with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in the key roles.
As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you're talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles. It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies.
So, while the film might be the third Deadpool film, Levy wanted to make sure that it does feel distinctly different and doesn't just recycle the same jokes and same feel as the previous two movies. He wanted to make this one its own, hence why it's also called Deadpool & Wolverine, rather than just Deadpool 3.
Wolverine will play a key part in the movie, becoming one of the main protagonists alongside Deadpool, rather than have Jackman simply cameo for a small part of the journey. This really could be the buddy road movie it was promised to be.
Of course, as with previous films featuring Deadpool, the movie will be "gnarly", as Levy explained. So expect a lot of humor as well as action and gore.
