Twitch will begin using AI to warn users before they post anything harmful.
In a recent post on X, Twitch Support announced a new feature for chat. Before sending a message, an AI will analyze the message and let you know if it might be offensive or disrespectful.
We're rolling out an experimental prompt powered by machine learning that encourages users to pause before sending chat messages that are potentially harmful. Our goal with this experiment is to help decrease harassment and facilitate more positive interactions on Twitch ... pic.twitter.com/isHtV2fck4

Twitch just announced this as an experiment they'll be running over the next few weeks.
Chat Hates AI
The Twitch Support post got some pretty harsh feedback, however. Many users question whether the AI will be able to distinguish between jokes, irony, and harmful words.
They pointed to Twitch's example for a bad word: "Butthead", which seems so inoffensive. The support team responded by saying:
Folks, we used the message example because, unsurprisingly, we did not want actual terrible language tweeted.Stop being buttheads.
Fair enough.
Streamers will still be responsible for their chats, but AI should help. And who knows, maybe AI really will make Twitch a nicer place to be.
