"I love Joe Biden. But we need a new nominee" wrote George Clooney recently in an op-ed for the New York Times. Biden's team have tried (and failed) to clap back.
Following in the footsteps of Alan Ritchson, the Reacher star who recently spoke out against Trump, another actor is now weighing in on the election. In an opinion piece written for the New York Times, George Clooney described Biden as a friend and a good man, but simply too old to run for President.
And according to Clooney, “This is the opinion of every senator and Congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private”. If that is the case, there's still technically time for Biden to step down and be replaced, but it seems like the President has instead gone on the offensive.
As Times congressional correspondent Annie Karni posted to X/Twitter shortly after the op-ed was published:
Biden is fighting back on Clooney. From a source familiar with event planning: “The President stayed [at the July 15 fundraiser] for over 3 hours, while Clooney took a photo quickly and left.”
Trying to put out the idea that Biden is somehow more virile or committed than George Clooney because he stayed at a fundraiser for longer seems misguided. But then, Biden's team had to respond somehow.
Bizarrely, Trump has also spoken out about against Clooney. On Truth Social on Wednesday, he posted this in Biden's defense:
So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?
So, at least Biden has one supporter against Clooney.
Do you agree with George Clooney? Or do you think he should have toed the party line?
