Video Game Locations You Can Visit In Real Life – Or Vice Versa

Spider Man NYC

Spider-Man: New York City

Let's start off with the obvious choice, shall we? The Spider-Man games are known for the detail-oriented depiction of Spideys home turf: New York City. Insomniac really poured their heart and soul into getting the Big Apple right, and try as they might, the game-version of NYC is still way smaller than the real life counterpart. They couldn't cram every street into the game, so they scaled Manhattan down to about a fourth of its actual size. Still pretty accurate and certainly worth a visit! | © Insomniac Games

KDC Bohemia

Kingdom Come Deliverance: Bohemia

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, players get to experience the medieval version of Bohemia. Today, this beautiful patch of land is the westernmost region of the Czech Republic and while you won't find an exact replica of the in-game locations today, you'll probably recognize lots of places if you know where to look. The layout of Rattay (Rataje nad Sázavou) is pretty accurate to the real city and you'll probably also find your way around the monastery (in Sázava, rather than Sasau) – this time, without having to pretend to be a novice, eventually losing your temper and doing unspeakable things to get the quest done. | © Warhorse Studios

AC4 Nassau

Assassin's Creed IV: Nassau

Looking for a warmer place? Fan of the ocean? Then the iconic Nassau might strike a chord with you. The capital city of the Bahamas is basically your home in Black flag – yours and every other pirates, for that matter. You'll find beautiful beaches and a bustling port there and, if you dare, some opportunities to test your own skills from AC. Climbing stuff, of course – we do not condone violence, alright? Nassau has quite the history with pirates but is mostly known for its tourist attractions today, as well as its dining and nightlife. And, let's be honest, it looks like paradise! | © Ubisoft

Horizon Red Rocks Amphitheater

Horizon Zero Dawn: Red Rocks Amphitheater

Horizon Zero Dawn isn't exactly known for its realism, is it? At the end of the day, you shoot robot dinosaurs, after all and still, the game made the list with one specific location: The Red Echoes. You'll find a place that's obviously what's left of today's Red Rocks Amphitheater, and what remains of it in Horizon looks pretty darn accurate – if you ignore the decay of it, that is. Also, the game might be your only chance to actually climb the rocks. We'd advise against trying that in real life, except you've got cash to spare for the hefty fine. | © Sony

Division 2 Washington DC

The Division 2: Washington D.C.

I'm not gonna lie: Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is ridiculously accurate to the real city of Washington, D.C. and if you've played the game for a while, you'll absolutely find your way around without trouble. The only thing that might seem strange at first is that if you go there today, there will be a lot less violence and the place is less decayed, but everything else is so accurate, it's scary. | © Ubisoft

G Ta 5 Vinewood

GTA 5: Los Angeles

You guessed it: Los Santos from GTA 5 is obviously Rockstar's interpretation of the very real city of Los Angeles with some slight changes: the Hollywood sign becomes the Vinewood sign, the Griffith Observatory becomes the Galileo Observator, you get the idea. The point is: there are so many L.A. locations you can visit that should already be familiar to you from Los Santos, it's insane. Rockstar being Rockstar... | © Rockstar Games

AC2 Venice

Assassin's Creed 2: Venice

The Assassin's Creed games' whole shtick is their historical accuracy – kind of, at least. They often cover historic events you've heard about in history class, but let's be honest, Ezio Auditore has a fist fight with the pope at one point, that's not really that accurate... or is it? I digress, though: one thing Assassin's Creed 2 got right were the locations. A vacation in Venice feels like channeling your inner Ezio, but please don't try to climb every wall you find... | © Ubisoft

1-7

Video games often blow our minds with the fantastical worlds they build, with magic and mystery and everything else we don't have in real life. And as mind-blowing as those worlds may be, it gets really freaky when video games accurately show places and locations you can actually visit in the real world. We've got a few amazing places in the world you might only know from video games, but are only one exciting real life journey away.
