The cooperative shooter peaked in popularity in February, with over 458,000 concurrent players. Since then, however, the player base has steadily declined...
Numbers Tell the Story
In June 2024, Helldivers 2's peak player count on Steam dropped to just under 91,700, with an average of 40,400 players active on the servers. By comparison, in February, the game averaged around 274,000 players (via SteamCharts). This is a significant drop, as Helldivers 2 has lost approximately 85% of its player base since its peak earlier this year.
A drop in player numbers does not mean this game is dead or dying. by u/Lonewolf12912 in Helldivers
The decline in player numbers is largely attributed to a lack of new content updates. While initial enthusiasm was high, the lack of fresh gameplay elements such as new factions and challenges has led to player boredom and decreased engagement, as discussed in the Reddit post. While a drop in player numbers is normal, Helldivers 2 Studio Arrowhead is known for fantastic community management - and I'm sure it won't be long before they address the player boredom.
