5. BETTER CHAMPION BALANCE: The champions that are played the most see the most changes, but League never quite hits the mark - and there have been champions that have been niche for years. 4. MAKE ALL ROLES FUN: Naturally, “fun” is a matter of preference, but there are far too many ADCs - and a fair few supports and top laners - who can feel frustrated at certain parts of the game. While all roles have a place in the game and contribute to victory, not all feel equally rewarding. The mythic items may be a step in the right direction, but they will not be enough. MORE ROBUST PUNISHMENT SYSTEMS THAT MAKES AN IMPACT ON TOXICITY IN RANKED: Yeah, we know it’s hard, but Riot has been having the current punishment system for a while and it’s still not working great. Sure, the player behavior gurus keep saying toxicity is trending down, but there are ways to improve that - whether by introducing a medium punishment between chat restrictions and long-duration bans or empowering the player support or community teams. 2. MORE (AND MORE INVOLVED) EVENTS: Sure, 2019 and 2020 have had a fair few events, but we hope Riot pulls all the stops for 2021. I would like to see the return of classical maps like Butcher’s Bridge or even a refreshed Twisted Treeline, as well as new maps and effects. Sure, it has gotten a bit harder with the new map effect, but how cool would it be to see a snow-covered Summoner’s Rift? We don’t have to stop there either – perhaps the map could feature the trees in bloom or have a seaside makeover for the summer? (Image Credit: Riot Games)
1. NEW GAMES AND CONTENT WITH THE RUNETERRA IP: For the 10-year anniversary of League of Legends, many players were hyped to see Riot Games’ many plans for the League of Legends universe. 2020 was a hard year for schedules, but we still got Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, and even a D&D crossover. For 2021 we are expecting an animated series and the Ruined King game, with an MMO (confirmed earlier this month) and a fighting game on the horizon. I’m not saying we will get them all in 2021… but we want more of Runeterra and not just on the Rift. (Image Credit: Riot Games)
The new year is already upon us. After the wild ride that 2020 was, we can only hope the coming year has some nice things in store for us. As far as League of Legends is concerned, here are our top 5.
