Which Skin Lines have some of the most interesting Lore?

High Noon Lucian — 5. HIGH NOON

This skin line gives some Cowboys vs Aliens vibes. It plays in the wild west of an Alternate Universe that might not contain Aliens… but it has demons and angels and other weird creatures. Of course, we’ve got our western town Sheriff Caitlyn who tries to keep the peace… with her rifle. In this western town are also characters like Darius, who had been bested in a duel by his brother and due to his wounded pride and twisted obsession, he struck a deal with the demon Hecarim. In this town, multiple champions are willing to kill for the right buck, like Jhin and Miss Fortune. There is so much going on in this alternate universe, with angels like Irelia falling from the heavens, Senna dying, but being brought back, as an Angel, by a greater power. Of course, we can’t forget the demons which corrupt souls and make deals with the living.

Worldbreaker Sion — 4. WORLDBREAKER

The setting for this skin line is an alternate universe in which champions have been transformed into Mesoamerican-deities that can destroy worlds – hence the name Worldbreaker. There are two destructive cycles with different champions getting a Worldbreaker skin. In the first cycle, Karma is an ageless being representing the sun. But a prophecy foretold that when the moon overtakes her four titans will rise and destroy the world. Those four titans are Nautilus, Trundle, Hecarim and Nasus. The second cycle follows a similar story, with Maokai who has to revive the planet after the first destructive cycle. He has to use his saplings to bring life back to the world, but he is not safe from destruction since two more titans are waiting to destroy everything once again: Malzahar and Sion.

Omega Squad Tristana — 3. OMEGA SQUAD

This skin line was inspired by Vietnam war movies and it sure shows. Each of the skins has a unique backstory and place in the team which brings together Twitch and four Yordles. Fizz is known as the Saboteur and it is unclear what kinds of battles he saw before joining the Omega squad but apparently, he only refers to the Sea as a ‘big bucket of chum’. The commander of the Omega squad is Tristana – go figure – who has a policy of never retreating, unless firing at the opponent while returning home. Of course, horrible war realities are also on the forefront, with Twitch being a deranged lunatic after too many battles. He’s lost his mind and any last shred of medical credibility even if he is known as ‘the medic’.

Crime City Braum — 2. COPS AND ROBBERS/CRIME CITY

This skin line has it all, amazing looks as well as interesting lore behind each skin. There is Miss Fortune who is a former gun for hire and is now looking to establish her own cartel alongside her bodyguard Braum who is described as ‘an unnervingly pleasant gentleman’. This fits perfectly with their canon characters, but also the AU of this skin line. We also can’t forget Twitch who runs one of the largest crime syndicates. The only human or ‘non-rat’ he trusts is Malcolm Graves who belongs to the notorious Graves Crime Family. This whole skin line just screams ‘Sopranos’ and ‘Godfather’... but you’re all probably too young to remember those.

Pulsefire Ezreal Lore 1 — 1. PULSEFIRE

Back to the future? Kung Fury? Terminator? What do all these movies have in common? That’s right Time Travel and that’s what this skin line is all about. In the dystopian universe, Piltover has turned into a totalitarian police state and a group known as the Rememberancers are tasked to manage all temporal spaces known as ‘Pulsefires’ and observe for any temporal anomalies and changes to the timelines. Caitlyn is a feared chrono-law enforcer who will take down anyone who messes with the fragile enigma known as time. Fiora is also one of the strongest Chrono-enforcers having followed in her father's footsteps, only to now re-think the purpose of the Remembrancers which are led by Thresh. Of course, for a good story, there have to be fugitives as well and they come in the form of Ekko who built his own Pulsefire-suit from scratch, as well as, Ezreal a temporal fugitive and time-hopping explorer extraordinaire.

We all love skins. They look nice and set us apart from other players who play with that basic, free, look. It's almost as though they're running around with naked champions out there if they don't have a skin.

One thing Riot has done really well is to tell stories of different worlds with some of their skin lines. They create alternate realities in which our champions roam around and live which are different from Runeterra. Some champions are part of a Korean pop group, others might gain the powers of a dragon. Skins let our imagination run wild and envision Champions we love live completely different lives.
