EDG are the 2021 League of Legends World Champions and while we won't see them at MSI, we do get to see their upcoming League of Legends skins and they are amazing!
After being leaked not too long ago, Riot officially released the splash art for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship skins. Most champions were revealed months ahead of time by players and friends of players, but now we have the confirmation and sadly there is no Lulu skin, but Yuumi looks cute, so we forgive Riot.
So, which champions did EDG choose for their skins and what was their theme? Last year DAMWON chose a Greek god theme, while FPX in 2019 semeed to go for Power Rangers. This year it's a knighthood anime theme and we're thriving.
Which Champions Will Get EDG Worlds Skins?
Five champions are on the receiving end of World Championship skins, since EDG had a 5-man roster instead of a 6-man roster. The players could choose any champion they played during the tournament for their pick and these are the champions they chose:
Champion Skin | Player | Position |
EDG Graves | Flandre | Top Lane |
EDG Viego | JieJie | Jungle |
EDG Zoe | Scout | Mid Lane |
EDG Aphelios | Viper | Bot Lane |
EDG Yuumi | Meiko | Support |
Flandre played more Graves games throughout the 2021 World Championshipthan all other champions he played combined, so it makes sense for him to choose Graves for his skin.
Another fun fact about the EDG skins is that Meiko specifically asked Riot to make Yuumi look like his cat Raccoon, and when seeing the two cats side-by-side, the similarities are uncanny. It's also funny that Meiko named his cat Raccoon, since Nuguri requested his 2020 World Champion Kennen skin to be raccoon as well... Raccoons are just winning every Worlds, eh?
How Much Will the EDG Worlds Skins Cost?
The 2021 World Championship EDG skins are going to go for 1350 RP. These are all epic and legacy skins that will be vaulted until the next League of Legends World Championship. So if you want to get your hands on them, you'll need to purchase them when they release.
World Championship skins aren't usually ultimate or legendary skins, since all players should have the same type of skin, though if I'm being honest, Faker deserves a legendary skin for one of his champions.
When Will the EDG Worlds Skins be Released?
The EDG World Championship skins are all going to be released in League of Legends Patch 12.9 which is set to hit the rift on May 11, 2022. These aren't the only skins getting released, though, since Riot also revealed upcoming High Noon skins, which will also be releasing in the same patch.
So, if you're a fan of skins, then Patch 12.9 is the one for you, with multiple skins getting released from two different skin lines. What other skins has Riot planned, though? Are some of them leaked already?
Which Champions Already Own World Championship skins?
Every year there are five or six champions that receive skins from the reigning World Champions. Some champions are so popular that they've even received skins from multiple world champions.
Year | World Champions | Champions |
2011 | Fnatic | Corki, Gragas, Janna, Jarvan IV, Karthus |
2012 | Taipei Assassin | Dr. Mundo, Ezreal, Nunu, Orianna, Shen |
2013 | SKT T1 | Jax, Lee Sin, Vayne, Zed, Zyra |
2014 | Samsung White | Rengar, Singed, Talon, Thresh, Twitch |
2015 | SKT T1 | Alistar, Azir, Elise, Kalista, Renekton, Ryze |
2016 | SKT T1 | Ekko, Jhin, Nami, Olaf, Syndra, Zac |
2017 | Samsung Galaxy | Taliyah, Ezreal, Jarvan IV, Rakan, Xayah, Gnar |
2018 | Invictus Gaming | Camille, FIora, Irelia, Kai'Sa LeBlanc, Rakan |
2019 | FunPlus Phoenix | Gangplank, Lee Sin, Malphite, Thresh, Vayne |
2020 | DAMWON | Jhin, Kennen, Leona, Nidalee, Twisted Fate |
Champions like Ezreal, Vayne and Thresh already own two World Championship skins, so it's nice to see EDG change things up with brand-new champions like Viego and Aphelios.
