The Pogues return! Netflix renewed Outer Banks for season 4, and we're all here for it, especially after the gut punch that was the third season's finale. Here's everything you need to know about what's to come, including the release window, the returning and new cast, and then some.
Friendship, loyalty, love, adventure and mystery: that's Outer Banks in a nutshell. And absolutely insane locations, of course. The show has been renewed for a fourth season, and we've got you covered about everything you need to know about it beforehand!
For those out of the loop: Outer Banks is a coming of age story that follows the tight-knit group of Pogues (John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo) as they navigate a chain of illicit events filled with mystery, adventure, a high-stakes treasure hunt and the escalating conflict with their rivals, the Kooks.
Outer Banks Season 4 | Release Window
Listen, I wish I could give you more info on that, but Netflix has been stingy. The only thing they said at this point is that Outer Banks Season 4 releases in 2024. That's honestly good news because the Hollywood strikes in 2023 delayed Outer Banks' production quite a bit, so 2024 is not the worst case for fans.
Considering that and the fact that one season of Outer Banks takes roughly one and a half years to produce, we're guessing the fourth season will be a winter release. The last season hit Netflix in February 2023 and calculating in the delays, it's probably best to expect season 4 in October at the earliest.
Until then, rewatching the first three seasons is time well spent. Or just enjoy our little recap.
Where Have We Left Off In Outer Banks?
Obvious spoiler warning is obvious: if you're not up-to-date with Outer Banks' third season, you might want to leave now.
Was it really worth it? Haven't pirates taught us that the real treasure is the friendship we've made along the way or something? Well, it still is with the Pogues, but they had to pay quite the price.
In season 3, they found the treasure they've been hunting, and the gold was theirs. Was it worth it, though? After the 18-month time-skip, they still had the deaths to mourn: Ward and Big John didn't make it.
With Big John out of the picture (for real this time), where's season 4 headed now? The epilogue in the third season's finale already teased another treasure for the Pogues to chase after, and it's none other than that of the famed pirate's Blackbeard.
Chances are we're looking at a new "trilogy" of sorts starting with season 4, as the creators have already confirmed their plan of only having four or five seasons is no longer what they're aiming for. Here's hoping!
Outer Banks Season 4 | Returning Cast
As we had to say goodbye to Big John and Ward, we probably won't be seeing Charles Halford or Charles Esten again – maybe in flashbacks. Those would be hard to take.
The Pogues are set to return, though: Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss and Carlacia Grant all star in the teaser for the fourth season and might be inclined to go on another treasure hunt.
Some of the Kooks, namely Drew Starkey and Austin North as Rafe and Topper, are also here to stay for season 4. Also, Fiona Palomo has been promoted to a regular to Outer Banks, so prepare for Sofia's return!
We can also get ready to meet quite a few new faces according to Netflix, including:
- J. Anthony Crane as Chandler Groff: After losing his wife and still very much grieving, he's welcoming to the Pogues on their latest adventure.
- Pollyanna McIntosh as Dalia, girlboss personified: she comes face-to-face with the Pogues and they'll have to deal with her, revolutionary-like leader and baddie that she is.
- Brianna Brown as Hollis Robinson, a business acquaintance of Ward's, with a special interest in Rafe.
- Rigo Sanchez as Lightner, the pirate of all pirates, putting the Pogues to the test.
- Mia Challos as Ruthie, who Topper seems to be quite taken with, described as "a wild child with a toxic streak."
While we're still waiting for an official release date, we'll make sure to keep you updated on any further news regarding Outer Banks' fourth season!
