PORTALS, the movie for Melanie Martinez' album with the same name, should be released in 2024. I'll tell you everything we know so far about the successor of the K-12 movie.
After K-12, there are lots of rumors that Melanie Martinez is also working on a movie for her third album called PORTALS . Here are all the deets we know about the PORTALS movie.
Melanie Martinez created the character Cry Baby, an empath that doesn't die, but rather is reborn into the creature of her PORTALS album. With the rebirth of Cry Baby, she loses all of her memories, but her soul stays the same. Cry Baby is represented by Melanie Martinez herself.
PORTALS: Possible Release of Melanie Martinez' Second Movie
Originally, the movie was planned to release in 2023. However, due to a lack of funding by Melanie's label Atlantic Records, sadly the movie continues to be postponed.
But Melanie Martinez did lots of work already. The script of the movie is already finished since 2021, she only doesn't have the funding for the filming yet.
However, I don't want to pull the wool over your eyes. In an interview with Female Magazine, she stated that the production of the movie would cost way too much money. She also says that she doesn't know if she will ever be able to make the movie.
Melanie Martinez Wants To Focus On Music Videos
On February 9, 2024, she also stated that right now she would rather focus on the remaining music videos for her PORTALS songs as it fits better with her previous projects. And yeah, now it makes lots of sense that she doesn't get the money for the production of the movie. I mean, have you seen her music videos?! These are not just incredible, but also extremely costly. Check out the most popular one of her PORTALS album below:
While, there is a huge possibility that we won't get a movie for the PORTALS album, we at least get another kind of representation of her ideas in Melanie's music videos. It's gonna be interesting to see what else she will do with her Cry Baby character.
