Throne and Liberty is set to be released on December 7 in Korea, with Amazon bringing it to the West in early 2024. We're excited to share with you all the details we know about the upcoming MMORPG.
With Throne and Liberty, developed using the Unreal Engine 4, we might have another MMO that we can grind into. Maybe you're already aware that there was a lot of criticism during the beta, and since then, NCsoft developers have been working to completely revamp the game's criticisms in a positive direction.
The game also offers some unique features like shape-shifting. You can transform into a flying, land or water creature based on what you need to cross. Throne and Liberty Is On Its Way To The West. What Can We Expect?
Weapons
The class system is like in New World – it depends on the weapon you're using. You can switch weapons anytime and carry two at once.
These weapons have already been introduced:
- Sword and Shield
- Great Sword
- Bow
- Crossbow
- Staff
- Dagger
- Wand

Leveling System
After the changes implemented since the beta, the time required to reach the maximum level has been reduced to approximately three days (if one is diligent, otherwise it will take longer). Well, this is pretty good, since every MMO only truly shines in the endgame.
The quests are given as contracts with NPCs rather than traditional side quests. Of course, there is also a main quest and in addition, there are world events structured similarly to those in Lost Ark, which help you to get EXP.
This means they appear at various times in different locations on the map. The reward you receive from these events depends on your performance. If you are just being carried, you won't receive as much.
Gear
When it comes to gear upgrades, each upgrade is guaranteed, and the gear cannot break or downgrade. However, what is more challenging is obtaining the right stats on the gear.
Guild And PvP System
T&L is a very guild and party-oriented game. You receive a lot more rewards when you're part of a guild, whether in PvP, dungeons or even in terms of trading. So, the game isn't really suited for lone wolves.
PvP is also a central aspect of the game; there are node wars (a daily open world guild vs. guild event) and sieges where guilds must conquer a castle. As a reward, players receive the premium currency, Lucent, among other things.
A third major event is the so-called Tax Delivery. During this event, taxes collected from each region are transported by a giant golem controlled by the ruling guild. Other guilds attempt to steal the taxes during this process.
Your guild contribution points and K/D ratio are even displayed as stats to other players. This aspect alone gives me quite competitive vibes.
Monetization
Introducing a one-time level growth pack and preorder pack, the game also features a monthly battle pass that somewhat accelerates your progress.
In the marketplace, it seems you can pay with premium currency. Free-to-play players are also supposed to be able to sell items for Lucent there, such as loot from bosses. At the end, this is a Korean MMO and no one expected the game to be without some form of microtransactions.
However, the success in the West will likely depend on the extent of pay-to-win elements and how much Lucent a free-to-play player can earn.
Also, Amazon being the publisher might influence and make it more free-to-play friendly, similar to what they did with Lost Ark.
