In 2023 players were elated to finally see the return of Nexus Blitz. Not only that, but a brand-new game mode was also added into the mix – Arena – and it seems like there are even bigger and better plans for 2024 from the League of Legends modes team.
Riot Maxw3ll, who has been leading the modes team throughout the year, revealed that he will be moving to a new League project for 2024, which had some fans worried, but it seems that he is leaving the modes team in good hands.
LoL: Fans Worried Over "Drought" Of Content
Starting in January, I'll be working on a new League project, pivoting from the Modes Design Lead position. Modes will continue work on Arena, returning modes, and even new surprises next year. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed Arena, it was one of the highlights of my career.

Before 2023 there had been a huge drought when it came to 'fun' content in League of Legends. No Nexus Blitz, just the same few repeated game modes over-and-over and nothing new in sight. While it still looks like we're never going to be getting another PvE mode, this year has proven that there are some cool new additions to the LoL client.
When it was revealed that Riot Maxw3ll would leave the modes team, some fans began to worry once more, thinking that there will be another big gap in new content for 2024. But Riot's Lead Gameplay Producer, Ryan "Reav3" Mireles, was quick to assure players that this wasn't the case at all.

Definitely not. I am actually investing more heavily into modes team for next year. The team has more ambitious goals for next year then this year.
So to hear this from Reav3 himself is rather reassuring for fans. However, fans did weigh in and try to give their opinions on future events and modes. Bringing back OG modes like Ascension or Dominion came up, and some fans also hope that events get a bit of a fresh start, since most LoL events follow the same pattern every single time.
With 2024 being the 15-year anniversary for League of Legends, there could be some big plans, right? For now, we will have to be a bit patient to find out more about the upcoming game modes in 2024 and the biggest question still remains – is Arena going to be permanent?
