Larian published a bunch of stats on what players got up to in Baldur’s Gate 3. And sorry, but we have to talk about y’all’s romantic choices…
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a massive success and is slated to win Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards. Millions of players got up to all kinds of shenanigans in the game, and we now know more concretely how players interacted with it. And I have some questions…
Baldur’s Gate 3 Stats Revealed, Players Clearly Don’t Know What’s Good For Them
Developer and publisher Larian revealed a bunch of statistics about Baldur’s Gate 3 and how players interacted with the game. We have some classic (and stunning) stats here: 1.3 million players have completed this extremely long game, with an astounding overall playtime of 452.556.984 hours. If you’re wondering how much that is in years, Larian got you covered: it’s 51.662 years. Wow, that’s a lot! Of that time, a whopping 8196 years were spent just in the Character Creator.
Number of you who started an Honour Mode playthrough? 158'000 Of those players, 464 parties have made it to the end already. 34'000 of you...have already met your match. Better luck next time. pic.twitter.com/sLZ53yxHS4

The most popular class in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Paladin, closely followed by Sorcerer. In terms of subclasses, players loved going for Berserker and College of Lore. When it comes to the races of custom characters, players were similarly adventurous and picked Elf and Human most often.
Now, there’s a lot more here, and you can check out all of it in the tweet above. But one particularly caught my eye: the most popular romantic partners were Shadowheart, Karlach and Lae’zel. 51.3% of players completed the romance arc with God’s favorite princess. And I really don’t mean to shame anyone, but what the heck?
How can Karlach, AKA the most likeable video game character of all time, only be number two? Seriously, everyone is that into Shadowheart? I get that her and Lae'zel are the first ones you meet, and I get the appeal. But how anyone with the right sexual orientation can interact with Karlach for more than five minutes and not fall in love with her is beyond me. Also: where are Astarion and Halsin? The latter at least got his own stat, with 66% of players requesting “that Halsin bare all – not bear all”. Whatever that means... Which statistics stuck out to you? How many hours have you put into BG3 and most importantly, who’s your love interest? Let us know in the comments!
