Here's how to solve the Silent Library Puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3.
The Silent Library puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3 might seem tricky at first, but it's quite straightforward. Just like the confusing murals in the Thorm Mausoleum, this puzzle gives you a riddle to solve: "What can silence the Nightsong?" Figuring this out will allow you to access the Spear of Night, an important item for both Shadowheart and the Nightsong quest.
Baldur's Gate 3: How To Solve The Silent Library Puzzle/Riddle Of The Night
You'll find the Silent Library on the lowest floor of the Gauntlet of Shar, close to the third Faith-Leap trial room. There appears to be a barrier over the door, but it's actually a big Librarian orb enemy in the center of the room, causing the silence. Defeat it, and you can cast spells again.
Once you're in the Silent Library, defeat the Justiciars that are there. Then, unlock the big gate leading to a space with a circular altar. Be cautious of traps. The altar has an inscription that asks, "What can silence the Nightsong?" When you interact with the altar, a box appears where you can input the answer.

The answer is a book called "Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger." You'll find it in the second bookcase from the entrance, on the north side of the room. Watch out, though—the bookcase is booby-trapped, so be sure to disarm it before grabbing the book. This book explains that the Nightsinger (also known as Shar) is the one who can silence the Nightsong.
Return to the altar and place the book "Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger" into the box. This will solve the puzzle, granting you access to a vault where you can retrieve the Spear of Night.
And that's it! This is how you can solve the Silent Library Puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3. Make sure to check out our other guides on BG3 and stick around here on EarlyGame.
