The Blood of Lathander quest line in Baldur's Gate 3 takes you onto a long and bloody journey, with a legendary weapon waiting for you at the finish. Everything you need to know about this quest is right here in this guide!
With Baldur's Gate 3 rich and vast world, you might miss some quests without your knowing, as they sometimes hide behind books, an invisible wall or just by clicking on a plaque.
And as you already have a long list with important tasks to do, it's only natural to overlooking some smaller things. The Blood of Lathander quest is one task you might overlook really fast.
But to reach it, you need to walk a bloody and tedious way. However, it's all worth it. This guide tells you exactly what you need to do, to complete this intricate quest.
Baldur's Gate 3: Activate The Quest
You need to take the mountain pass in order to reach the Rosymorn Monastery and the Githyanki Creche. After reaching the big cathedral, you have multiple ways to activate the quest line.
Just interact with the statue of Lathander and the plaque before the entrance. Or do it my way and force your way through a broken wall just before the main entrance.
The hole in the wall leads to the upper floor, where you encounter some minor foes and as you venture further in you reach eventually after a few steps a big, open space with four pedestals and a large mosaic on the floor.
Baldur's Gate 3: Ceremonial Weapons
You might notice a glowing sword on one of the pedestals (don't pick it up), with the other ones being empty. This is one of the four ceremonial weapons you need to find.
The stained-glass on the ground gives you some hints which weapons are required for this little puzzle. Here are the locations where you can find those:
- Ceremonial Mace – The mace is found in a room full of drunken Kobolds. The wine cellar is directly under the hole in the wall or next to the main entrance. You need to fight off the drunken enemies (using fire in a wine cellar is pretty dangerous, be careful!). After the battle, loot the enemies and one of them has the Ceremonial Mace.
- Ceremonial Warhammer – To get the warhammer, you need to climb your way up the cathedral. Once you arrive, you'll notice two big Eagles and in their nest lies a dead Kobold and the Ceremonial Warhammer. Killing of the gigantic birds is the easiest and fastest way of getting your hands on the weapon. The other ways are far more tricky and makes the Eagle angry nevertheless.
- Ceremonial Battleaxe – The big, open space with the stained-glass on the ground is our starting point. There is a broken window where you can get out, and jump across some vines, to another broken window. After entering the room, you will notice the Guardian of Faith and the battleaxe on the ground. Defeat him in order to get the weapon.
With everything you need in your possession, you can go back to the open space with the stained-glass on the floor. Place the ceremonial weapons onto the correct pedestal as followed:
- Dawnseeker Welkinglory – Longsword (already in place)
- Dawnmaster Stockhold – Mace
- Dawnmaster Seed – Warhammer
- Dawnmaster Vaseid – Battleaxe
You acquire a note and the Dawnmaster's Crest. Hold onto it, as you'll need it later. For now, we proceed to Githyanki Creche in the basement.
Baldur's Gate 3: Inside The Githyanki Creche
Follow the main quest and reach the basement of the cathedral. Don't tell anyone you have the artifact they are searching for and initiate a conversation with captain Kith'rak Therezzyn in the Captain's Quarters.
A cutscene will unfold before you, showing the Inquisition and some Githyanki soldiers storming outside the room searching for the stolen Artifact, also referred to as the "weapon". In this scene, you also see Kith'rak taking a red gem from the pedestal, sealing off the Inquisition.
You have two ways to get the red gem called "Gith Shard":
- Be bloody, enrage, make a mess, be as ruthless as possible and take it from the corpse on the ground or...
- ...just steal it from the captain. (how trivial this seems, it never crossed my mind, only after beating everyone up. Oops)
In any case, with the Gith Shard in your possession, you can unlock the sealed barrier and move forward to the Inquisitor Chamber.
Baldur's Gate 3: Puzzle In The Secret Room
After you reached the next chamber of your destination, ignore Commander Ch'r'ai W'wargaz and enter the western room with two moveable statues. You need to pass the strength check in order to move the left statue.
The right statue needs to face the entrance and the other one needs to face into the west direction. If they look into the correct direction, a path will open up, and you may enter the Daybreak Gate, another small region with the treasure close by.
Baldur's Gate 3: Disabling Yellow Barrier & Getting The Treasure
Once inside, you need to deactivate a yellow barrier, by breaking three blue crystals.
- First Crystal – Next to the doorway
- Second Crystal – behind a rocky pathway
- Third Crystal – on the cliffside near the last room
There are two possible methods of obtaining the treasure. Since we have the Dawnmaster's Crest, this will be pretty easy. Interact with the socket and place the Crest within it. This will disable the security system and offer you a radiating, sacred mace, with divine energy in return.
Congratulations, you've obtained a legendary weapon with high damage output, a guiding light for darker areas and a strong spell.
