More and more directors are voicing their concerns regarding AI, and now even James Cameron is speaking out, claiming that Terminator was a warning of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence. Just another Hollywood moron, or is there something to this?

In Terminator, AI-driven machines attempt to eradicate humanity, going so far as to nuke the whole world and send assassin robots back in time to get rid of the leader of the last remnants of humanity. In these movies, Cameron showcases the dangers of a highly advanced AI should it get out of control. And now he's worried we're edging towards that fate.

James Cameron Speaks Out About AI

During an interview with CTV News, Cameron spoke about the recent developments regarding AI, explaining that he shares the concerns many developers of AI have at the moment.

Cameron claimed that Terminator was supposed to be a warning, but added that people didn't take it seriously, "I warned you guys in 1984 and you didn't listen".

According to Cameron it's going to be the weaponization of AI that will prove worst for humanity, “I think the weaponization of AI is the biggest danger."

He then went on to add, "I think we will get into the equivalent of a nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don't build it, the other guys are for sure going to build it, and so then it'll escalate." He didn't specify who the "other guys" are, but your first guess is probably correct.

It's easy to ridicule such a self-aggrandizing figure, but Cameron does at least have a point when he says that whoever develops AI the fastest will have an insurmountable advantage over the competitors.

Whether the director's dystopian prophesy will come true or not is not for us to decide. Only time will tell how the whole AI topic turns out. Let's just hope it's not Terminator! I'd prefer living in the Matrix over that desolate nuclear wasteland that Skynet created any day of the week!

The future is here and NPCs are taking over TikTok... can I have a Skynet apocalypse pls?
