This will be one of those games lost in the annals of time, forgotten. Whilst it was by no means the worst Call of Duty to grace us with its presence, it sits in that middle-space: not bad enough for it to be remembered as a villain and not good enough to be remembered as a hero. World War 2 preceded Vanguard and was, by all means, an aggressively average game. Its multiplayer didn't really have any legs, its singleplayer ranged from cringe-worthy to down-right offensive, and its Zombies... existed. Featuring similar verticality to Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare was damaged even further by its ridiculous and incredibly cringe "Zombies in Spaceland". This stupid forking mode took all the fun found in a Zombies mode and absolutely butchered it. Its bizarreness isn't the problem, it's everything else. Principal among those features? Its level design and mohawked-zombies. | © Activision
As this list progresses it gets progressively more tedious as well. Tedious is also the perfect word to describe Black Ops IV. From its Blackout mode - designed to piggyback off other successful Battle Royale's like PUBG and Fortnite - to its complete lack of a campaign, we all looked to the game's Zombies mode for some kind of savior. The problem? It was a complete mess, unpolished, had no personality, and was defined by another word as well: "boring". | © Activision
Thus, we come to the worst Zombies Mode in the history of Call of Duty and none of you will be surprised by what we have in store for you... Call of Duty: Vanguard is a rubbish through-and-through, something that you can see from its steeply declining player-base. The biggest insult, though, is its Zombies mode, which throws away all established conventions, gave us literally no content, and then failed to follow its depressing launch with reasonable seasonal content. "Nom, nom, nom", that's the noise you're going to hear whenever you get a little adventurous in Call of Duty's iconic Zombies mode. Those Zombies are out to eat your brains and, eventually, we will all become brain soup. It's just a matter of time, after all. Sometimes, though, you can have a little bit of fun before you meet your inevitable demise. In this case, though, it's purely a horror show.
