Banjo nuts and bolts — BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS: When you think of a successful cartoony platformer a couple of games probably come to mind and one of them being Banjo-Kazooie. The original title became a favorite of many players. 10 years after the release of the original and 7 years after Banjo-Tooie, developers Rare created Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts which was a commercial failure, and the franchise was benched. Medal of honor warfighter — MEDAL OF HONOR WARFIGHTER: Medal of Honor Warfighter came out in 2012 and was a total disaster. Unlike its predecessor Medal of Honor (reboot) the game failed in almost every aspect. It was a clear case of an unfinished product as Warfighter suffered from numerous bugs, terrible graphics and a weak plot. EA announced the series dead due to poor reception. There's a VR title coming up in 2020 but the series has been long forgotten after Warfighter. (Image credit: EA)

Deus ex invisible war — DEUS EX: INVISIBLE WAR: The original Deus Ex might just be one of the most influential games pre 2000. The title talked about many modern problems and even predicted some of the darkest events in modern history. It was no surprise that expectations were set high for the sequel. Invisible War wasn’t a bad successor but the studio was having financial issues at the time and had to close down as it couldn’t meet the impossible expectations. Dead space 3 — DEAD SPACE 3: The original Dead Space was a great success in the survival horror genre. The first sequel also received a lot of praise for keeping what made the first game great. The same could not be said for Dead Space 3. The title introduced microtransactions and stepped away from the horror genre going more into action territory. This caused it to sell less than its predecessors and it has been more than 7 years since DS3 with no news of another game on the way. (Image credit: EA)

Shenmue 2 — SHENMUE 2: Shenmue 2 was doomed to fail from the start, and it had nothing to do with the actual quality of the game. It just simply cost too much and had no way to make up for the cost. In terms of gameplay the game surpassed its time by introducing a day and night cycle and many other features. Shenmue 2 not only killed the series for almost 20 years but also caused SEGA to turn from first to third-party developer. The franchise finally came back to life 18 years later with Shenmue 3.
