The Rocket League White Hat topper has been circling the community for ages, and is well known for being an insanely expensive Trade In. Why? I had asked myself for a while, and perhaps I was a bit of a fool for not knowing already – but when it came to writing this article, my mind was blown by what I found out.

The Rocket League White Hat is unbelievably cool, not just because it is a "White Hat", which is a stylish treat in itself, and not just because of it being Rocket League's most expensive item, but because of its history. There's a reason why it's so expensive, so let's get straight to it!

Just quickly before we begin, are you as obsessed as I am about Rocket League Items, Trade Ins, and Decals? Well, if you are, then here's a little selection of our most recent Rocket League content!

How Much Does the Rocket League White Hat Cost?

The Rocket League White Hat is the most expensive Rocket League item, and has been sold for as high as $12,000 USD as a Rocket League Trade In. That's an insane amount of money, right? Well, yes... it is! This item is so rare, and so stylish, that everybody wants to get their grubby mitts on it. Oh, and if you already have the White Hat in Rocket League, you'll probably be looking for the highest bidder, so that you can get yourself some nice fat stacks of cash... but, why the Rocket League White Hat?

Why is the Rocket League White Hat So Expensive?

The Rocket League White Hat Topper is an insanely rare item provided to players who have helped Psyonix by finding and reporting game-breaking exploits in Rocket League. These exploits are so severe that they might completely destroy the Rocket League experience, and Psyonix wants to reward players who report them with a little something for their troubles... Here's the explanation from Rocket League's support website:

The White Hat is a topper rarely given by the Developers, to a player who discovers and comes forward with a severe Rocket League exploit... We completely understand wanting this coveted item! However, these are not granted by request, but are only given in very rare situations.

This also explains why the Rocket League White Hat is, in fact, a "White Hat". In computing, a "White Hat" is a person who tests a computer network by attempting to hack in and generally cause some mayhem. To be honest, this sounds like a pretty unbelievably fun job. Here's a really great explanation from Reddit:

How Do I Get the Rocket League White Hat?

To get the Rocket League White Hat, you need to either report a very severe game-breaking Rocket League exploit, or purchase it as a trade-in. That's insanely expensive... so you might want to opt for the former. It is very hard to get the Rocket League White Hat, and only four players are known to have it (as of writing), so it makes sense that it is by far the most expensive Rocket League Item.

So, yeah, the Rocket League White Hat is one crazy trade in, and one stylish item. We think it is so cool that it is called "White Hat" because it is awarded to people who are effectively hacking into Rocket League. Crazy, right!? Well, we love this Rocket League Item, wish we could have one, but expect that the Rocket League White Hat will most likely never fall into our love arms... What a shame.

$12,000 USD? Holy cow...
