Disney cancels The Acolyte after only one season according to Deadline.
According to Deadline, The Acolyte has been canceled due to poor streaming numbers. Disney has not yet confirmed this decision.
Was The Force Too Weak In The Acolyte?
The show's debut received 11.1 million views in five days, which is still less than the series "Ahsoka" got, but it seemed like fans were interested in the new Star Wars series. But after a short time the viewership decreased from episode to episode and by the end it was severely underperforming.
The biggest issue for Disney was that the series had a budget of $180 million, which was far too high. Given that, it's a major disappointment for Disney.
"Acolyte" Leads To Anger. Anger Leads To Hate.
One reason Acolyte didn't do well was that Star Wars fans were pretty harsh critics. The new concept of the Force, character development that dragged on too long, and the culture of witches that seemed interesting at first ended up being a bit cringeworthy. There were a lot of negative reviews, which led to an audience score of just 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It's a shame we'll probably never know how the story ends. But if the show isn't popular, why should Disney keep going with it?
Even Star Wars can fail sometimes.
