HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us has been praised for over a year at this point, and for good reason. Changes have been made where they made sense, the whole cast did an amazing job and people still cry when they see the third episode (hi, I'm people).

After the first game has been faithfully adapted, HBO is gearing up for season 2 and 3. Production has already started, but, according to rumors, one of the lead actors is already done, just weeks after filming has started.

Update (March 28, 2024): Those rumors have since turned out to be false. This article remains online to get an understanding for the story and how the rumors came to be.

Pedro Pascal Has Reportedly Wrapped Filming For The Last of Us Season 2

Everybody's darling and the perfect casting choice for Joel, Pedro Pascal, has reportedly wrapped his scenes for The Last of Us Season 2. Those of you who played the game will probably know what that means, which will probably be a curse and a blessing at the same time. Spoilers ahead, watch out!

Still here? Well, then: considering how quickly Pedro Pascal was done filming his scenes for the upcoming new season, The Last of Us enthusiasts will know what that means. He doesn't have that many scenes to shoot in the first place.

It's safe to assume at this point that the HBO adaptation won't change the one thing that was undoubtedly the biggest gut punch in the story – Joel's untimely end. The only thing fans can hope for now is that they're more prepared for it now, years after the game released.

It remains to be seen if there will be some changes made to the way it goes down, as that has been one of the points critics have made over the past: Joel wouldn't be so gullible to go down that way, it was way too brutal and Joel deserved more than a golf club.

It wouldn't be too surprising if they did twist all of that a little for the HBO show. The adaptation has changed a few things already, like the way the infection spread in the first place, so changing the way Joel ultimately dies might be worth considering. It is pretty hard to feel a fraction of sympathy for Abby after the whole thing and looking at the casting choices HBO made, that might be something the show wants to do better than the game: showing that Abby and Ellie are basically two sides of the same coin.

At the end of the day, it isn't that surprising that the show won't change Joel's fate, though. It is what sets the second game and Ellie's next journey into motion, after all. Even if it'll break hearts all over again.
