Hideo Kojima is known to express his opinions of movies over Twitter/X. When a review is short, you know the film was bad, but what was his review of Tatsuki Fujimoto's "Look Back" like?
Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of well-known Shōnen manga, Chainsaw Man, has also released a multitude of popular one-shots throughout the years. One of them, Look Back, has also recently been turned into a movie which released in Japan.
When new movies drop, Hideo Kojima, one of the most famous game creators, likes to go see them and then release his own rating and review of them. With movies like Madame Web you can tell right away what he thought, with such a short review, but what did he have to say about Look Back?
Hideo Kojima Praises Look Back
Kojima absolutely loved the movie "Look Back" based off Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga. Kojima went as far as to even say that the work is "one of the most remarkable anime of the past decade". His review continues with even more praise from the known game developer.
I was shaken to my core! The tenderness, the kindness, the strength! Such rich expressions and sensitivity, surpassing even a live-action film! I was moved by the present and future of entertainment! Anime is truly incredible.
The work seems to have truly inspired Kojima, with him admitting that he’s also already ordered the source material and will be reading the manga as well. "I've already ordered Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original manga and can't wait to "look back" on it".
"Look Back" is one of the most remarkable anime of the past decade. I've written commentary for it. The original work was amazing, too. "I was shaken to my core! Now if that isn't high praise, then I don't know what is. The movie will be released in North America on July 14, 2024, so anyone who wants to go see it can do so then.
Look Back, first released in 2021 in Shōnen Jump+. The movie adaptation was done by Studio DURIAN, a rather small animation studio, with the cast, Yoshida Mizuki and Kawai Yuumi also being newcomers to the scene with these being their first main roles in an anime.
