League of Legends Patch 14.8 has gone live and with it we're getting a huge list of champion changes ahead of the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational.
League of Legends Patch 14.8 is going to be a smaller patch as we prepare for the big Mid-Season Invitational that is coming up in May. While there are a lot of champion changes, they aren't huge, with Riot not wanting to change the meta all too much.
There are some brand-new cosmetics that are going to be released as well, with a return to the popular Blood Moon universe. Sure, we've had skins in the alternate Snow Moon universe recently, but Blood Moon still is and remains an iconic skin line.
League of Legends Patch 14.8: Champion Changes
Champion Adjustments
Mordekaiser
Mordekaiser is going to be getting some minor adjustments in this League of Legends patch, with Riot making changes to his Q and E. Not only that, but Riot have also decided to make him less vulnerable to counterplay and decided to buff his ultimate as well.
Q – Obliterate
- Cooldown: 9/7.75/6.5/5.25/4 ⇒ 8/7/6/5/4 seconds
E – Death's Grasp
- Magic Damage: 80/95/110/125/140 (+60% AP) ⇒ 70/85/100/115/130 (+60% AP)
R – Realm of Death
- [NEW] Death Realm Escape Interactions: Champions can no longer escape Mordekaiser's Death Realm by using Quicksilver Sash, Mercurial Scimitar, Alistar's Unbreakable Will, Gangplank's Remove Scurvy, Milio's Breath of Life, Olaf's Ragnarok, or Rengar's Ferocity Battle Roar. However, crowd control immunity will still prevent the application of Realm of Death.
Skarner

- Shattered Earth Cast Time: 0.5 ⇒ 0.35 seconds (Note: this is how long Skarner stands in place pulling the boulder out of the ground before being able to move or attack)
W – Seismic Bastion
- Mana Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 ⇒ 60/65/70/75/80
- Magic Damage: 60/90/120/150/180 (+80% AP) ⇒ 50/75/100/125/150 (+80% AP)
Champion Nerfs
Riot is going to be making some changes to four champions in the nerf category this time around. With this being the go-to patch for the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational, Riot is going to nerf Azir who is too good in professional play right now, as well as Zeri who is making a comeback in 2024.
Azir
These nerfs for Azir have been added to try and make it a bit tougher for him in some matchups. This is a very pro-skewed nerf, since Azir continues to be a mid pick in low MMR queues.

Zeri
Zeri might not have gotten any direct buffs lately, but thanks to her core items becoming stronger, she's also made a re-appearance on Summoner's Rift. Everyone hated that. So, Riot is doing us all a favor and nerfing her ahead of MSI 2024.

Champion Buffs
There are a lot of champion buffs for this League of Legends patch. Everyone and their mother is getting a buff it seems — except you Katarina, sit down.
Riot is adding a few changes to all lanes in hopes of getting as much variance at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational as possible. Currently, there is a good variance in the support role and the top lane, but Riot is also looking to get more carries back into the jungle instead of just tanks... that's what Rell had to die for in Patch 14.7.

Hwei
Riot originally created Hwei to make him a viable pro-play pick. He saw a short stint in the professional meta, but has since fallen off, which is why they're buffing him. Maybe he'll rear his head at MSI 2024.

Olaf
With these changes to Olaf, the balance team hopes that he might be played during the Mid-Season Invitational, but even Riot Phroxzon has said that this is an opportunistic change. So we'll see if any of the pro players see this vision as well.

With the mid lane currently dominated by mages, Riot hopes that the Sylas buffs will make him a good flex pick into the jungle. We'll see whether he becomes a dangerous champion.
Q – Chain Lash

Thresh
Base Stats
- Base Armor: 31 ⇒ 33
- Magic Resist Growth: 1.3 ⇒ 1.55
It's been a while since we've seen this many buffs, but it'll be exciting to see whether all champions could be viable at MSI 2024.
System Changes In LoL Patch 14.8
There are also some system changes included in this patch, with the Voidgrubs getting a buff to their damage, as well as the number of grubs required to get first grub summon spawn. The timer is also being adjusted, so teams don't just trade dragon for grubs. Riot wants you to fight.
The change to void Grubs also should make the top lane gain some agency, since it will be more likely that there are going to be fights and contests happening around the grubs.
Baron attacks are also going to be a bit more lethal after this patch, with the monster's damage getting an increase. Riot Phroxzon explained that the attacks shouldn't be too excessive, but just to make taking baron a bit harder.
Void Grubs
- Initial Voidgrub Spawn Time: 5 ⇒ 6 minutes
- Touch of the Void Damage per Stack: 6 (halved to 3 for ranged champions) true damage per second over 4 seconds ⇒ 8 (halved to 4 for ranged champions)
- Hunger of the Void Threshold: 5 Touch of the Void stacks, gain a 2nd summon at 6 stacks ⇒ 4 Touch of the Void Stacks, gain a 2nd summon at 6 stacks
Baron
- Acid Pool Magic Damage: 10% AD ⇒ 200 (+10% AD)
- Acid Pool Slow: 50% ⇒ 60%
- Territorial Baron Pull Magic Damage: 75 ⇒ 300
- Hunting Baron Lightning Magic Damage: 15% of target's current health ⇒ 20% of target's current health
- Acid Shot Magic Damage: 20% AD ⇒ 200 (+50% AD)
- Tentacle Knock Up Magic Damage: 25% AD ⇒ 200 (+25% AD)
Upcoming Mythic Shop Rotation
In this League of Legends patch, we're also going to be getting another Mythic Shop rotation, which means some new prestige skins can be purchased for Mythic Essence. If you have wanted to get your hands on a fun and unique skin like Dark Star Cho'Gath, then you will definitely be hyped for this Mythic Shop rotation.

In this League of Legends patch, Riot is also going to be some adjustments to ARAM. These are just a few changes this time around to keep the mode fun and playable.

- Xerath: Damage Dealt: 93% ⇒ 95%

Nerfs
- Vi: Ability Haste: 10 ⇒ 0
- Zyra: Ability Haste: 0 ⇒ -10
New Blood Moon Skins
Along with the champion changes, we're also going to be getting some new skins. This patch doesn't have too many cosmetics, with only three champions getting new skins, but the Blood Moon skins are some of the most fun and unique skins in the game, so are we even mad?
