Helldivers 2 Will "Never" Get PvP And It's Our Fault

Helldivers 2 is a co-op shooter that has garnered a lot of attention since its release. Now, fans are asking for new game modes, but it seems that the devs won't be bringing in PvP, no matter how many players beg for it.

Toxicity in online gaming is almost unavoidable in this day and age. The anonymity of the internet gives players the confidence to say whatever they want. League of Legends, Valorant, EAFC or Call of Duty; one thing all these games have in common is the toxic player base. And that is something that CEO and creative director Johan Pilestedt of developer Arrowhead wants to avoid for his latest hit, Helldivers 2.

In a recent Twitter Q&A, he stated that PvP is "never" going to be added to Helldivers 2 and for good reason.

Helldivers 2 is a co-op PvE third-person shooter. While its release was tainted by multiple server issues, it has since recovered and is able to host the huge amount of players flocking to the game. With it being a shooter, many players have made comparison to other games in the genre, but there is one thing missing and that is actual Player vs. Player gameplay.

Recently, the CEO and creative director, Johan Pilestedt, revealed that PvP is not something Arrowhead is looking to add to the game. The reason? In his opinion, PvP breeds toxicity, and he wants to keep the Helldivers environment "supportive and fun".

In a second tweet, Pilestedt stated that the devs "don't want the toxicity that naturally comes with [PvP]". He also explained that most games these days offer some form of PvP and that Helldivers 2 is meant to be a game "for people that just want to have a challenging time with friends but in a PvE setting".

Other players have praised Pilestedt and agree with him that the game is not designed for PvP and doesn't need it to be a long-lasting shooter. So, it seems like players will have to continue to enjoy the game as is, with future updates adding in more content to the existing modes.
