Netflix has been planning an animated remake of One Piece, and they've chosen WIT Studio to lead the project, who have a fantastic track-record.
hWith the release of the live-action One Piece series, fans are excited about the animated remake of the beloved anime.
Netflix has now confirmed that the studio commissioned to produce the show is the GOAT of modern anime, WIT Studio.
Why WIT Studio?
WIT has been making banger after banger for over ten years now. Fan favorite shows like Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga and Spy x Family, make their track record nearly immaculate, when it comes to bringing manga to life.
The remake will be called The One Piece and will re-interpret the original manga with modern production standards. This will also allow new fans to get into One Piece that were put off by the original anime, spanning over 1000 episodes.
The One Piece will be directed by Masashi Koizuka, who was a storyboard artist on Attack on Titan.
During a live-stream on August 10, Masashi Koizuka stated that he took the project for himself, since he was the biggest One Piece fan in the whole studio.
I knew that I love One Piece the most in this studio, so I took this project because I didn’t want anyone else working on it. I will definitely create something interesting. Please look forward to it.
He also stated that he plans to make this anime happen for the long run.
I’m facing this as a long series. If the people like what we’ve created, we know we would be creating this in the long-run. I want to continue this for a long period. I want to continue this forever.
These statements spark a new level of excitement for me, since there never is a better choice in directing a show than someone who is familiar with the source material, and also loves it.
It helps, of course, that Masashi Koizuka has a lot of experience and a great track record with his work on other shows.
What do you think? Will you get into One Piece when the remake finally airs?
