LEC Week 4 MVP: SK Sertuss

SK Gaming finally hit its stride in week 4 of the LEC and won both games this weekend. A lot of that is on our weekly MVP - Daniel "Sertuss" Gamani.

SK Gaming is one of the most venerable organizations in European pro gaming and one of the founding members of the then EU LCS. Despite its grand history, however, their LoL team has often struggled lately and entered week 4 of the LEC 2022 Summer Split with a 1-6 record.

With games against G2 Esports and Excel Esports, things looked quite grim for the German team as they started their fourth week. It would take a big improvement for it to take a win, never mind two - but that is just what happened. SK were able to get good starts against two teams known to be oppressive early on and managed to teamfight well. At the heart of SK’s upsets was their mid laner, Sertuss.

LEC MVP: SK Sertuss

The German mid laner put G2 on notice from the early game on, taking four early kills on his Akali and setting Rasmus "caPs" Borregaard Winther's Azir behind. While G2 were able to recover somewhat and limit his teamfighting impact in the mid-game, it only created more space for the rest of his team - especailly Jean "Jezu" Massolon Draven, who made full use of this opportunity.

In the Saturday game against Excel, Sertuss was on Sylas and he delivered a masterclass on how to use this champion for roams and ganks. Despite playing a melee champion into Azir, he was often out of lane first and punished XL support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle for trying to set up vision. Sertuss racked kill after kill, setting up key flanks and leading his team to a much-needed victory

While his KDA from the first game looks less impressive, Sertuss' early kills and the pressure they generated were clutch in keeping G2 on the back foot. In the second game he terrorized Excel with Sylas, helping keep the map dark for his opponent and forcing them to facecheck.

Next week, Sertuss will be leading SK Gaming in their games against Team BDS and MAD Lions. With another good week, the veteran organization may be on their way to recovery and maybe even playoffs - but BDS and MAD both have other plans. Meanwhile, follow us for more LoL news and analysis!
