By this point and time, do we even have to explain how immensely popular Arcane was? It managed to get one of the best ratings on rotten tomatoes, has some of the highest ratings on IMDB for a Netflix original series and now it’s also managed to outperform everyone at this year's Annie Awards.

Arcane was nominated nine times for the Annie Awards, but how many of those awards did they actually obtain? Let’s check it out!

Which Awards was Arcane Nominated for?

Arcane was nominated for nine awards at this years Annie Awards:

  • Best Direction - TV/Media
  • Best Production Design - TV/Media

Arcane

Arcane managed to win all nine awards they were nominated for. Doesn’t this just give you 2003 Academy Awards vibes for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King? I mean the film was nominated for 11 awards and won them all.

What Effect Could The Success of Arcane Have on Animation?

Arcane was an extremely long project that could have failed multiple times. Throughout the success though upon release there is one narrative we got to hear over-and-over again and that is that the animation industry is extremely risk-averse.

Pixar works? Let’s just make animated films and shows like that. Animation also does not get the credibility it deserves and is often seen as nothing more than ‘childrens’ shows, which is also completely untrue.

Hopefully, with the success of Arcane, more and more studios will give animators more time to create beautiful stories and worlds and branch out from the cookie-cutter animation style we’re used to. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is another animated movie that has pushed the boundaries and was hugely successful. Hopefully more studios get the time and freedom to explore unique new animation styles thanks to the success of shows and movies like Arcane and Spider-Verse.
