In this guide, we answer whether Once Human supports dedicated servers.
There are many players who want to experience NetEase Games and Starry Studios post-apocalyptic open-world survival game, Once Human, through a dedicated server with their own rule set and parameters. But the question is—does Once Human even support dedicated servers?
So, if you are a new player who didn't play any of the closed or open betas of Once Human and don't know how the game's servers work and whether you can create and maintain your own dedicated servers, this guide will come in handy as it answers all of your questions.
Is There Dedicated Server Support In Once Human?
When writing this guide, there is no dedicated server support in Once Human. So, if you were looking forward to creating and maintaining your own server with different rules and parameters, sadly, you won't be able to do it as the game works more like an MMO rather than other survival games like Rust or DayZ.
At the beginning of the game, you can choose between PvP and PvE game servers that you can join as per your preference to start your playthrough. Just keep in mind that the progression between servers is not shared.
So, if you switch to a different server, you have to start from scratch, though your progress in the old server will remain intact. You can hop into it at any time, as there is no progress wiping.
To avoid server congestion, each Once Human server is divided into multiple worlds, which you can easily switch between in-game. Unlike switching servers, if you change your World within the same server, except for your base—that too, you can move using the Move Territory function; everything else remains intact.
In simple words, there's no progress loss. So, if you want to play the game with your friends, just make sure to join the same server with them, as since there is no dedicated server support, creating a new and unique one just for your group is out of the question.
That being said, down the line, if Once Human does get a dedicated server support, which to be honest, seems highly unlikely seeing the game's structure, we will update this guide.
