The European Space Agency (ESA) is looking for young talent for its Young Graduate Trainee Program and young gamers are more in demand than ever before! We tell you why you as a gamer are well suited for a position in this program, and at the same time give you all the deets you need to know.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is looking for enthusiastic young talents who want to kickstart their careers in the field of space flight. With the Young Graduate Trainee Programme (YGT), ESA offers a unique opportunity for master's graduates eager to turn their passion for space adventures into a profession.
ESA is currently specifically seeking gamers, either because they've seen my Starfield gameplay or they are well aware of the talents and skills gamers can bring through their hobby.
But first, let's talk a bit more about ESA.
ESA Overview
ESA is an intergovernmental organization with 22 member states, dedicated to the peaceful exploration and use of space for the good of all. Almost sounds like the United Galactic Federation from Star Trek (well, maybe someday).
From observing Earth to developing inspiring space projects and training astronauts, ESA brings together scientists, engineers, and business professionals all across Europe in a diverse and multicultural environment.
ESA has recognized that gamers bring a unique set of skills that qualify them for the program, and no, it's not just about knowing how to use a joystick.
The Perfect Fit – Why Young Gamers Excel in ESA's Young Graduate Trainee Program
Many gamers acquire a variety of skills through their hobby that can be beneficial in their professional lives. Without realizing it, they sharpen talents such as reaction time, stress resistance, and process optimization.
ESA is actively looking for gamers for their Young Trainee Program, whether in the scientific field, as engineers, in HR, finance, or legitimately. ESA is seeking applicants from various backgrounds to support their team. Because even though everyone thinks of astronauts, technicians, and scientists when it comes to space exploration, their work wouldn't be possible without the support of other staff!
Let's delve into some of these skills and why they qualify gamers for the Young Trainee Program.
Process Optimization
Let's start with a point that might seem weird at first: process optimization. In many games, especially (but not exclusively) RPGs, it's crucial to act proactively, plan your build, and make your play through as effective as possible.
Effectiveness is crucial in the gaming world, especially if you want to tackle higher difficulty levels. Sure, not everyone min-maxes their play through to the smallest detail, but if you look at how meticulously some plan their builds, process optimization is a skill that every gamer has to some extent.
Another part of this optimization is the gaming hardware they use or the in-game performance, such as frame rate, graphics, etc. Gamers are skilled at tuning their equipment for the best possible experience, adding another strength to gamers.
Enthusiasm for New Technologies
What might seem like a less tangible skill is different for ESA. Gamers often bring a natural curiosity that can be advantageous in their scientific and technical lives, without being limited to them! Notably, some of the best add-ons for games, mods, etc., are created by gamers themselves.
This technical affinity sometimes manifests in gamers building their own computers, requiring them to engage with the necessary hardware.
In general, it seems that gamers are much more open-minded and enthusiastic about new technologies, and there's probably nothing newer than the technology needed for space exploration.
Analytical Capability
Okay, one could argue that analysis and process optimization somehow go hand in hand, but that's mainly because they complement each other so well.
Analysis usually precedes process optimization because you have to figure out what needs improvement! Whether analyzing your next boss encounter, the resources available in the game, or the performance of your latest build, analysis is a crucial part of gaming.
This strategic thinking and the ability to precisely assess strengths and weaknesses and apply them to a situation also distinguish gamers outside of games.
The Comprehensive Benefits of ESA's Young Graduate Trainee Programme
Especially for those of you interested in modern technologies and wanting to explore new boundaries, ESA's Young Graduate Trainee Programme is appropriate.
The YGT offers graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the development and execution of space missions in an international and multicultural environment.
If you've been considering a career in the European space sector for a while, ESA's program provides an ideal starting point! While job opportunities mainly target engineers and scientists, there are plenty of options for graduates in IT, natural or social sciences and business.
