The Breath of the Wild sequel to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch is already being eagerly awaited by fans. At the same time, the release could also mark the foundation for the successor to the now five-year-old console.
The Nintendo Switch has been on the market since 2017 and may now be slowly coming to the end of its life cycle. Until recently there were rumors about an upcoming more powerful Nintendo Switch Pro, but the project has reportedly been shelved in favor of developing a new generation of consoles. And so the long-awaited Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could be the last major project developed by Nintendo for the switch.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Could Be Last Switch Game
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023. And if rumors are to be believed, once Zelda has been released Nintendo will be developing games exclusively for the next successor to the Switch, leaving the release of other Switch titles to 3rd-party studios.
Per industry-insider Andy Robinson:
Nothing is known about the new Nintendo generation; and the information about the new Zelda game has been scarce so far. Whether it's the last major Nintendo Switch game or not, we have every confidence that Tears of the Kingdom will be as epic as the acclaimed Breath of the Wild. Are you a Nintendo fan? We've got some exciting news for you...From what I'm hearing I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo starts talking about new hardware by 2024. I'm not convinced another huge first-party game other than Zelda is left on Switch (usual Nintendo prediction caveats apply...) https://t.co/96CSoLd0Dn
