Before we start, remember that you can always check Blizzard's official Twitter Help Account for possible known problems. We recommend starting with this step to narrow down the possible source of the problem.

WoW error 51900223 doesn't happen often, but when it occurs, usually a lot of players are not able to log in to most realms anymore. Instead, the realms appear as "incompatible" like you can see it in the following Twitter image.

This apparently happens when Blizzard accidentally releases an update or patch too early on either the WoW realm servers or for the game client. The thing is, both the game client and the servers are supposed to run on the same game version, and as soon as this isn't the case anymore, you'll get WoW error 51900223, showing you that there is an incompatibility between your game data and the WoW realms.

The obvious solution is to re-sync your game data with the server data. There are various ways to get there:

  • The easiest, but not the fastest way is to just wait until Blizzard realizes the problem and applies a fix for either your game data or the servers. As soon as this happens, you should either be able to log in to Azeroth again directly or having to download a certain amount of game data via the Battle.net app first
  • Another possible fix can be to fully close the Battle.net app (also in the Task Manager if it's still running there). After restarting it afterward, the client might automatically sync the game data correctly
  • Alternatively, you can try using the data repair function in the Battle.net app
  • If all this doesn't help, you can try completely reinstalling World of Warcraft. But we really don't recommend that! Reinstalling a game as big as World of Warcraft takes a lot of time, and it's likely that Blizzard will have delivered a fix until you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game

And that's all you have to know about WoW error 51900223 – hopefully you can play your most favorite MMORPG again soon. Finger's crossed!
