Battlefield 2042 launched and it was horrible. Reminds us of a certain other game, doesn't it?
Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be the s***. It was supposed to be the best Battlefield to date, it was supposed to overshadow all other Battlefield games, and it did absolutely none of those things. It, right now, is actually one of the worst rated games on Steam. And you know what isn't? Cyberpunk 2077. Because as much as people like to hate on that game, story wise? It's not so bad... if your standards aren't as high.
Now, I know, I know, Cyberpunk 2077 isn't exactly the s*** either. It is s***, or at least some people think so. I am not some people, though, and I actually didn't hate Cyberpunk 2077. I never got my refund and I still play the game occasionally. The story, like I said above, is somewhat okay and the part that bugs me the most is the fact that I'm forced into first person, rather than third and that I can never see my character, and the fact that the background of your character matters so little.
Right after its launch, Cyberpunk had to be pulled from the PlayStation store because the bugs were just on another level. Especially PS4 and Xbox One users were struggling with the game, while PC and next-gen users were fine. It had its problems, some of which have been fixed by now, others not. But let me tell you one thing that loving and living BioWare games has taught me over the years: EA is in it for the money, and that's going to be Battlefield 2042's downfall. The end.
Battlefield 2042 will have patches that can hopefully fix the worst of the issues, but I honestly doubt it will ever live up to the hype. Neither will Cyberpunk 2077, I know that, and I'm not denying it, but at least Cyberpunk 2077 is trying to be better (maybe just to fix their image, but still).
Now, you can argue that Cyberpunk 2077 has been trying for... a while, and the game is still not up to par, while Battlefield has only been out for two weeks, but I just have a gut feeling that the biggest problems will take a long while to be fixed in Battlefield. The maps, the audio, the aim assist and so many more issues that are bugging Battlefield 2042 players that almost make the game unplayable right now.
The fact that Battlefield 2042 doesn't have a single player campaign doesn't make things any better, since that was such a huge part of previous games. It just, once again, shows you which path EA wants to take. The monetary one.
Again, I'm not saying that Cyberpunk 2077 is doing great, nor is CDPR, but Battlefield 2042 is on a worse trajectory. Let's talk again in a couple of months... some of you might agree with me then.
