The Simpsons: Hit & Run is 20 years old, but the official soundtrack has just been released on Spotify and Apple Music. Fans assume that this means a remake is inbound, and we think that's fairly likely.
Finally, we have some more news about what could be the best remake of all time. This isn't about that DIY project from the YouTuber remaking Simpsons: Hit & Run in Unreal Engine 5, this is official.
If you didn't get to play Hit & Run at the time, it's basically GTA set in Springfield. You play as members of the Simpsons family, and you go about Springfield doing very GTA-like missions while avoiding the police (the game even had a star-system to represent how seriously you were being pursued).
The Simpsons: Hit & Run Soundtrack Release Hints At New Remake
Fans highly suspect a remake is inbound after the official soundtrack for The Simpsons: Hit & Run was released on Spotify and Apple Music in January 2023, twenty years after the game's launch. The publishers of Simpsons: Hit & Run, Vivendi Games, merged with Activision Blizzard in 2008. So technically the decision about a remake will be up to Activision Blizzard (or even Microsoft, if the acquisition goes through).
The Simpson: Hit & Run is the perfect candidate for a remake; it was massively popular at the time, the brand still has huge nostalgic appeal, and the open-world nature of the game would benefit massively from all the advances in video game software we've seen in the intervening twenty years.
If a remake of Hit & Run comes out this year, then instantly makes the top of this list:
If anything, it's kind of weird that a remake wasn't made sooner. Let's not forget, the game went "Platinum" on Xbox and was part of the "Greatest Hits" on PlayStation.
Let's hope it's finally happening. We'll keep you updated as soon as we hear more news.
