Like most games in the series, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet still has so-called Effort Values, or EVs in short. This complex stat system has changed a bit in these new titles, making some parts of it more straightforward. It is still pretty complex though, so we will show you everything you need to know about it.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet EV Explained

Effort Values (EV) are a selection of stats that your Pokémon gain by defeating certain Pokémon or being in a fight while catching certain Pokémon. Pokémon can gain 510 EVs total, with a max of 252 per stat, with 4 EVs giving you one stat point.

Your Pokémon will gain passive stats in fights, which you can min-max by typically assigning as many stat points as possible to minimum two, maximum three stats. A 252-252-4 split seems to be most common, especially among pros. But you can try out your own thing, obviously.

Every Pokémon has EVs for five different stats: Attack, Defense, Speed, HP, Special Attack and Special Defense. Here's how you can see the stats:

There are a bunch of tips that you should follow, if you want to level your Pokemon's EVs as quickly as possible. Here's what you should do to effectively EV train:

Every type of Pokémon you defeat gives you EVs for different stats. Here are some recommendations for the best Pokémon to farm and where they are located:

Use Power Items

Power items increase the EV gain for a specific stat, with every item boosting a different stat. You can buy power items for $10,000 each at Delibird Presents from the “General Goods” section. Here's which stat each Power Item boosts:

  • Power Bracer: Attack
  • Power Belt: Defense
  • Power Anklet: Speed
  • Power Weight: HP
  • Power Lens: Special Attack
  • Power Band: Special Defense

Raise EVs With Vitamins

Just like with getting jacked in real life, having the right kind of supplements can make your training in S&V go much faster. You can give your Pokémon vitamins, which will immediately grant them 10 EV for a specific stat. You can buy these in different shops, here's what each vitamin does for your stats:

  • Protein: Attack
  • Iron: Defense
  • Carbos: Speed
  • HP Up: HP
  • Calcium: Special Attack
  • Zinc: Special Defense

Keep Your EV In Check

If you accidentally leveled up a Pokémon's EV too much and want to readjust, you can do that by having giving your Pokémon. Reducing Berries. These Berries reduce an EV by 10.
