In case you somehow missed the news - Halo Infinite launched almost a month ahead of schedule on November 15. The best part? It's entirely free-to-play. But it is going to require a PC, or an Xbox, and 26GB of hard drive space - so is it worth it? What do you actually get on day one? In this article we'll take you through what you get "right out of the box".

You can download Halo Infinite right now from these stores:

Halo Infinite's Maps Available On Launch

Halo Infinite has launched with ten maps, ranging from small arcade style maps to fairly large maps that are suitable for 28 player action (the maximum lobby size in Halo Infinite):

  • Aquarias
  • Bazaar
  • Behemoth
  • Deadlock
  • Fragmentation
  • Highpower
  • Launch Site
  • Live Fire
  • Recharge
  • Streets

These maps all look phenomenal, so we think on this front they've played an absolute blinder, one particularly highlight is Fragmention - which is the iconic Blood Gulch / Coagulation / Valhalla map of Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite's Modes Available On Launch

This blew us away a bit; Halo's alwasy been known for having great game mode customization, but this is ridiculous:

  • Arena:
    • Oddball
    • FFA Oddball
    • Capture the Flag
    • Slayer
    • Neutral Flag
    • Stronghold
    • Fiest
  • Big Team Battle:
    • Slayer
    • Total Control
    • Capture the Flag
    • Stockpile

Arena is for the smaller maps and 4vs4, but Big Team Battles are for up to 14 players a side!

Halo Infinite's Weapons Available On Launch

Some absolute classics here, although we were surprised there's no classic USMC shotgun - but besides this disappointment, they've played another blinder.

USMC:

  • MA40 AR
  • BR75
  • VK78 Commando
  • Hydra
  • MK50 Sidekick
  • CQS48 Bulldog
  • S7 Sniper

Covenenant:

  • Pulse Carbine
  • Plasma Pistol
  • Disruptor
  • Needler
  • Mangler
  • Ravager
  • Shock Rifle
  • Gravity Hammer
  • Energy Sword
  • Skewer
  • Shock Rifle

Forerunner:

  • Cindershot
  • Heatwave
  • Sentinel Beam

This is more weapons than we've ever had in a Halo game, and it's great to see some forerunner weapons made it into the game too!

Halo Infinite's Vehicles Available On Launch

Halo Inifnite launches with eleven classic vehicles, sadly no Elephant (those of you playing Sandtrap back in '07 will have enjoyed that reference), but more than enough to keep us entertained:

USMC:

  • Gungoose
  • Hornet
  • Mongoose
  • Razorback
  • Scorpian
  • Warthog Rocket
  • Warthog

Covenant:

  • Banshee
  • Ghost
  • Wraith
  • Chopper

Vehicle play has always been very well executed in Halo so we were expecting nothing less with this installment, but they do deserve praise here.

Is Halo Infinite Worth It? Verdict

Absolutely - we're blown away by the quality of Halo Infinite, and the year's delay has clearly served the franchise well. If you played Halo 3, you'll especially love this installment, they're drawing on nostalgia from that era - the "golden age" of Halo - and we're here for it.
