Whether you're gaming just for fun or more on the competitive side there are certain things that can make it all more enjoyable and give you the edge. Today, we present you with the top 5 things you need to be a successful gamer.
Let's start by saying that gaming has grown massively in the past two decades, and it's no longer just a lonely hobby. Oh no, those days have certainly passed and Twitch streamers can now rival Hollywood celebrities in terms of fame. Some of us are not after becoming the next big streamer, but have other goals in mind. No matter if you're casual or trying to get competitive, you'll probably agree with our list.
Top 5 Things You Need To Be a Successful PC Gamer
First and foremost, you'll need a computer with decent components. That's easier said than done as prices of GPUs skyrocketed in the past year. Right now things are getting better, but it's still hard to find some specific hardware. If you're a fan of the most popular competitive titles such as League of Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2 or Valorant you won't need a powerful configuration. Still, getting one is always a plus. For now, let's focus on other things that matter.
5. Stable/Fast Internet Connection
Needless to say, online games require an internet connection. The more stable your connection, the better your performance. Sometimes you'll be experiencing lagging and high ping even with the best internet out there, but at least you'll know the issue isn't coming from your end.
4. High Refresh Rate Monitor
Most of the monitors in the world are still running at 60Hz, but getting a 144Hz monitor will give you an overall smoother experience in any game. Additionally, you'll also have the advantage when it comes to reaction time in online games. Don't believe us? Numerous studies have shown the difference.
It's a long video, but it's worth it if you want to get all the details. Once you switch to something higher than 60Hz, you'll find it hard to use your old monitor.
3. Gaming Mouse/Keyboard
When I say gaming mouse, I don't necessarily mean you have to spend $200 on a Razer. Just make sure you're not using an old office computer mouse for $5. Sure, it can get the job done, but much like the high refresh rate monitor, you'll feel a great difference if you upgrade. Aim for a mouse with different DPI modes and try not to fall victim to RGB. The keyboard makes less of a difference unless we're talking mechanical.
2. A Proper Microphone/Headset
If you've played any multiplayer games, you'd know that communication is crucial. We've all had that one teammate with a mic so bad that it's hard to tell what they're saying between all the static. Don't be that guy. Getting a dedicated microphone is nice, but it's usually a bit pricy, so just get a decent headset.
1. Self-control/Training
The most important thing on our list is actually free. Self-control isn't just resisting the urge to scream at your teammates, it's more than that. If you're trying to get good at pretty much any game, you'll have to learn the ropes and practice almost daily. It's hard to overdo the latter, but that might not give you the good results you're after. In fact, some of the most famous pro players, like Daigo Umehara, have a strict schedule where they train only for a few hours. Try it out.
