We all thought he was dead. Or, at least, had disappeared. But we were wrong; Midas is alive. And he's back on Fortnite Island.
The world of Fortnite is huge, and the story behind it is often hard to grasp. But honestly, who's surprised? We've been hurled through time and space so many times in Fortnite that it shouldn't come as a surprise that so many us have lost our footing with the overarching lore and plot. But at least we'll never forget the biggest events and the most important characters, like Midas and Doomsday.
Here is the story of Midas, to help you understand how he survived and why he's back again.
The Origins Of Midas In Fortnite
To understand Midas' story, we first have to go back in Fortnite history, to Midas' beginnings in Chapter 2 Season 2...
If you remember, Midas wanted to destroy the island and the "Storm" forever to escape from the Battle Royal's loop. At first, his creatively-named device called, "The Device," seemed to work and was pushing back the storm. But then, players began receiving visions, and they saw an office of people frantically trying to counter Midas' scheme.
Epic were breaking the fourth wall to some extent. However, the office in the visions wasn't literally Epic, it was the in-universe company behind the Fortnite simulation, called IO.
Midas was supposed to have a role in the game, but he didn't want to continue the role. He started thinking on his own and built a device that would destroy the storm so that the characters could finally break out of the game.
When the event took place, Midas almost managed to implement his plan, but Jonesy and his team invoked the a new zone to prevent the escape. Later, this collapsed and flooded the island.
Then, at the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3, we saw Midas sitting huddled on a raft, shaken by his failure. Shortly after, a shark appeared to put an end to him and his suffering... Or so we thought.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2: Midas Is Finally Back, But We Need To Help Him Escape
Now, over 4 years later, it's finally confirmed: Midas is not dead. He's alive.
He's back on the island with a completely new story explained in the Fortnite Rise Of Midas Challenges.
For some reason, Midas was held captive by the Greek gods in The Underworld, guarded by Hades.
But he managed to escape by turning the cell door and his handcuffs into gold.
Now we need to help him reach his yacht and ultimately escape from the island.
There seems to be a traitor in Midas' old crew that we're supposed to find out later in the game. The community suspects it will be Jules or Brutus.
A lot of the story is still unknown, but it seems that Midas will once again play a significant role in the story of Fortnite. And it's up to us to find out how in Season 2.
