Before the release of FIFA 22, EA Sports is releasing four new Icons. With Wayne Rooney, Iker Casillas, Robin van Persie and Cafu, some sweet legends return to the football pitch. We take a look at the four new Icons for FIFA 22 and show you their ratings.
Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Fabio Cannavaro – what sounds like a dream team from FIFA 06 is today's reality in FUT 22. Over 100 Icons will be available in Ultimate Team this year. These sweet legends are a sanctuary for every FIFA player, everyone wants such a demigod for their own FUT team. Of course, the Icons will be a big deal in FIFA 22 again... And to push the hype even more: EA Sports has released four new Icons! We give you all the details about these sick newcomers!
Wayne Rooney, Iker Casillas, Robin van Persie and Cafu add four more big names to the Icon roster. Let's take a look at the four confirmed Icons and their ratings. Here we go!
FIFA 22 Icons – Wayne Rooney
This one doesn't need an introduction. We all know Martin Tyler doesn't get silenced quick. But in the 78th minute of the Manchester Derby in February 2011... he couldn't find any words for this moment of brilliance. Wayne Rooney made himself immortal. His bicycle kick against the 'noisy neighbors' will be remembered for ages. And Rooney himself will be remembered as well – as a new FUT Icon in FIFA 22! The Englishman is back!

Premier League, FA Cup and above all - the Champions League 2008. Rooney achieved everything. Together with Cristiano Ronaldo, he formed the dream duo of the Premier League. With 253 goals, he is by far the record goalscorer of the Red Devils. His three icons (86 OVR, 88 OVR, 91 OVR) sum up his fairytale of career perfectly. With his strong physique (89 on his Prime Icon) he can challenge most defenders. We think, that we will face him quite often in Ultimate Team. Especially with Premier League builds, the duo Rooney and Ronaldo would have a certain charm.
FIFA 22 Icons – Iker Casillas
San Iker has achieved everything that can be achieved in football. World champion, European champion, Champions League winner. The Spanish goalkeeper legend played for 25 years for Real Madrid and was responsible for the historic La Decima. In 2015 he moved to FC Porto, with whom he became Portuguese champion. At the beginning of May 2019, Casillas suffered a heart attack, after which the Spaniard was no longer able to compete and finally ended his career in summer 2020.
We are not at all surprised that he is becoming an Icon. Casillas is one of the best goalkeepers in history, his career is overshadowing everything. Its base (87 OVR) and mid icons (89 OVR) are impressive. But his Prime lets him overtake the greatest in history with a 92 rating. Only Yashin and Schmeichel (Moments) have better ratings. San Iker will certainly not be cheap, but hey... we all know that pain in FIFA. And we love it.
FIFA 22 Icons – Robin van Persie
The Flying Dutchman! His goal against Spain in the group stage of the 2010 World Cup will always be remembered. Time stood still for a brief moment. The Dutch super striker also provided historic moments for Arsenal and Manchester United. Unfortunately, he was unable to win an international title until the end of his career in 2019.
Unfortunately, with a pace of 84, Van Persie is anything but fast. But he makes up for his slow pace with a strong 94 shot. The overall ratings of his Icons (87, 89 and 91) are not that blatant either. So the Dutchman only remains something for football romantics, Van Persie won't make it into the meta.
FIFA 22 Icons – Cafu
Cafu also won everything there was to win in terms of titles. World champion with Brazil (1994 & 2002) and Champions League winner 2007 with AC Milan. One of the best wingbacks of all time is back on the pitch again!
The Prime Icon from Cafu is impressive. There are certainly faster players than the Brazilian (92), but with his physique (86) and defensive strength (91), Cafu performs at a very high level. We expect to see the Brazilian on many FUT teams.
