Fans want to see Kristen Stewart play the Joker in the upcoming The Batman franchise. Read, what Kristen Stewart had to say about the Joker rumors.
So, do you ever think that when Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart wrapped up the Twilight movies, they were like "so, Imma be the skinniest Batman ever, and you'll be the first female Joker." Crazy, how we now have dear old Robert suiting up as the bat, and serious talk around Kristen Stewart being the Joker. How did we get here? Let's unwrap.
Will Kristen Stewart Play the Joker?
It all started with fans being very vocal about wanting to see Kristen as the Joker. In an interview with Variety, Kristen did entertain the idea for a bit, but, ultimately, Kristen Stewart said she doesn't want to play the Joker:
I love the energy behind that. It’s really been done so well. I feel like, maybe, we don’t traipse over, but I love that gusto. Let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person.
The only answer I will accept is Kristen Stewart. https://t.co/Bb9jl3CuAZ

She doubled down, saying that she wants to do "something new", rather than re-visiting the role of the Joker, which has become something of a rite of passage for serious acting. After Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, it was Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix trying on the role. While Leto failed to be up to the task (though studio cuts and decisions might be to blame), Joaquin Phoenix further cemented his own legacy, while adding to the ever-growing boots-to-fill that the Joker role represents.

Is Kristen shying away from the pressure, or simply interested in exploring uncharted characters? We don't know, but I would be hyped to see a Princess of Crime. For the first Pattinson-led Batman, we're going to get Colin Farrel's take on the Penguin, while the Riddler still remains uncast. Both are great villains – seriously great villains – but we all know that we will see the Joker sooner rather than later.
