Many television shows and movies get released on Amazon Prime every day, week and month. So what's coming out this month?

Amazon Prime Video has been striving to become the next Netflix for quite some time now, yet continues to fail in its attempt to make waves. There's some great stuff on there, but it is mired by the fact that Netflix's ubiquity puts it in a position that's hard to beat and, of course, the fact that Disney+ has stolen all the good franchises. Yet, Prime Video has a benefit that's long been overlooked: it's also an Amazon Prime subscription, so you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck.

It's not that Amazon isn't trying, either. The company has inherited a number of intellectual properties as of late that may well be the selling point they need. With a new God of War TV Show rumored to be in production, and an exciting Lord of the Rings production due out later this year, we actually could see Prime Video become more relevant in the years ahead. It wouldn't be so bad, especially considering the pure quality of its existing lineup.

That's where we come in, though, as we seek to analyze and present the platform's upcoming releases with as much excitement as we can possibly muster. In the end, it's what we get out of the subscription that defines whether a service lives and dies. Amazon Prime being, well, Amazon, it's not surprising that there's a lot on there. Considering the huge amount of glut, though, the question becomes simple: what's worth looking out for?

Amazon Prime Video always likes to start the month with a giant drop of [usually] movies. Often a lot of these releases will only be available for the month in question, so don't be alarmed if you see some of these also included on the departures list further down. The Biggest Amazon Prime Releases In July 2022

House of Gucci

House of Gucci is far and away the biggest blockbuster coming to the platform this month. If you didn't get to see it last year, and enjoy a good biopic come drama, then it's well worth the watch.

It's scandalous and sexy, and the ensemble cast were widely praised for their performances (with the exception of Leto, who's Italian accent is difficult to endure). Some critics have taken issue with how capriciously the film oscillates between being camp and dour, but audiences were more favorable.

Gladiator

Another big Ridley Scott film is coming to the platform this month, and it's probably his single greatest piece of work: Gladiator. We imagine a vast majority of you have seen the film already but for those who haven't, this is one of those "films to watch before you die" that really is worth the hype.

Gladiator tells the epic story of Maximus Decimus Meridius, the would-be heir to Marcus Aurelius, whose family is killed by a jealous son. The unlawful heir to Marcus Aurelius, assumes power in Rome while Maximus is sold into slavery. To get his vengeance, he must work his way through the fighting pits of the empire until he can perform in the Colosseum, and get within reach of his family's murderers.

Hot Fuzz

This is another slightly older film now, but it's aged well, and is still one of the best parody action films ever made. What's especially worthy of praise is how well choreographed and enjoyable the fight sequences are. Even if the whole thing is a joke, and they're making constant nods and references to other iconic moments in film, the actual shootouts in Hot Fuzz are awesome.

Besides the great fight sequences, we're also treated to the comic duo of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, who never fail to impress. As with their other films together, you're guaranteed a great romp and lots of laughs.

A Hologram for the King

A Hologram for the King is not a phenomenal film, but it's a solid comedy, and Tom Hanks is the lead, so there's a firm hand on the tiller at all times. The film idles along at a slow pace at first, although it quickly picks up, and the ending should leave you more than content.

In the film we see Tom Hanks' character going out to Saudi Arabia to make a sales pitch to the king. However, his team are mistreated throughout, and he ends up more focused on a local doctor who he falls in love with.
