Hayao Miyazaki can't stop creating perfection, it seems. Will he ever retire from Studio Ghibli? Looks like that won't won't be the case, as he's apparently working on his next movie.
The Boy and the Heron has already been released in Japan, and after the mass critical acclaim the movie received, worldwide Studio Ghibli fans are hyped for the movie's release at the end of 2023.
Originally, this was supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki's final movie ever before he enters retirement, but insiders at Studio Ghibli say otherwise.
Studio Ghibli: Hayao Miyazaki Reportedly Working On Next Movie
If you're a big Studio Ghibli fan and love the incredible works of Hayao Miyazaki such as Princess Mononoke , Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle just like I do, then I'm sure you were at least a little bit disappointed when the news broke that Hayao Miyazaki was planning to retire after he finished The Boy and the Heron.
Well, technically Hayao Miyazaki was already retired before The Boy and the Heron, he just came out of retirement to work on the movie and was planning to go back to retirement after the project was finished.
It seems as though Miyazaki isn't too big a fan of the idea of retirement, because according to an interview done by Liberation, the Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki revealed that Hayao Miyazaki is already working on his next project.
The thing is, Hayao Miyazaki has announced his retirement many times in the past, only to continue working on his next project, so this isn't the first time this is happening. He has announced his retirement about four times in the past, but it seems his love for directing Studio Ghibli films is also his life's purpose.
According to Toshio Suzuki, this is most likely the case.
He's thinking about this next project every day, and I can't stop him — in fact, I've given up. I no longer try to dissuade him, even if he were to make a failed film. In life, it's only the work that delights him.
He continues to say that this will probably not even be his last work, instead Miyazaki will most likely just continue doing what he does best.
This time, he's not going to announce his retirement at all. He's continuing working just as he has always done."
What makes Miyazaki happy, makes me happy. That, and also his incredible creations. I can't wait to see The Boy and the Heron, nonetheless, the next project that he is working on.
