The #stayandplay FIFA 20 Cup final pitted together two players from Scandinavia and one was victorious. Mohammed Daramy is the inaugural winner of the #stayandplay Cup after beating Jesper Karlström 2-1 in the final.
FIFA 20 for a good cause
The online tournament, which was being hosted to raise funds for Global Giving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund, pitted 20 professional players against each other in a knockout-style competition.

Ultimately, Daramy proved to be the best of them all on Sunday. To get to the final, the 18-year-old – who was playing as his real-life side, Copenhagen – beat Nabil Bahoui (AIK), Fábio Silva (Porto), Sergiño Dest (Ajax) and Nikolai Alho (HJK Helsinki) and faced the heavily fancied Karlström at the last hurdle.
Not an easy win for Daramy
It was the Swede who started strongest in the game, and he managed to retain possession well in a tightly-fought first half, while he finished the opening period by thundering a shot off the post.
Level at the break, Daramy improved as the match went on and he took the lead at the 75th minute, only for Karlström to almost immediately equalize.
The 1-1 draw forced extra time and Daramy’s goal within the first 10 minutes of the second game ensured he won the final via the golden goal rule.
Speaking after the match, the teenager said:
“I was just patient and I knew if I played like I did, I would get chances and that one of them would go in. Now I’m the champion and I’m just very happy. It’s been a very good tournament and people thought I was the weakest one, but I proved them wrong."
He further added that few players played like him when questioned about his playing style in FIFA 20:
“I don’t do many skills or drag-backs. I just play easy and keep the ball in the offense and wait for spaces to come, then I will score.”
As part of the tournament, EA Sports donated $1 million to Global Giving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund and encouraged viewers to contribute funds to the worthy cause.
