If you cast your memory back to Modern Warfare 2019, you'll remember how incredible those weapons were. They sounded and looked beautiful, and the animators were really able to convey the weight of these weapons to the player. It's just something Infinity Ward have always been known to do well. So despite what anyone might say regarding the TTK, the doors, and the maps (oh god, please say they've improved the maps), you can rest assured they've got some great weapons in Modern Warfare 2. In fact, we've already seen a few of them in the beta. Here are the weapons we can confirm will appear in Modern Warfare 2.

Note: Due to the way the Gunsmith now works, every weapon will come with a number of receivers that will change the caliber of the weapon, and effectively make it a whole new weapon. So each weapon you unlock represents a "family" of different weapons that you can potentially make in the Gunsmith.

Every Weapon In Modern Warfare 2

Here are the weapons in MW2, by order of class. A lot of these weapons have been given fictional names, so Activision don't have to pay for the official licenses, so we've added the name of the weapon they're trying to represent in brackets.

Assault Rifles In Modern Warfare 2

Assault Rifles will be very strong in this game thanks to it being a slower game that favors pre-aiming over aggressive SMG play. Here are the ARs in MW2:

  • Lachman-556 (HK33)
  • STB 556 (AUG)
  • M4
  • M16
  • Kastov 762 (AK-47)
  • Kastov 74-U (AKS-74U)
  • Kastov 545 (AK-74)
  • TAQ-56 (SCAR-L)

Battle Rifles In Modern Warfare 2

Battle Rifles are a whole new category of weapon in MW2, and they're basically a cross between ARs and marksman rifles (which are also still in the game). Here they are:

  • TAQ-V (SCAR-H)
  • S0-14 (M14)
  • FTAC Recon (the M4 in a higher caliber)
  • Lachman-762 (G3)

SMGs In Modern Warfare 2

SMGs don't feel as powerful in this game for the reasons we mentioned above, it's simply a slower-paced game than the last few years. Here are the subs:

  • Lachman Sub (MP5)
  • MX9 (AUG Para)
  • FSS Hurricane (this is an M4 with a bizarre conversion to accept P90-style mags)
  • Vaznev-9k (Vityaz-SN)
  • Minibak (PP19 Bizon)
  • PDSW 528 (P90)
  • Vel 46 (MP7)
  • Fennec 45 (Vector)

Shotguns In Modern Warfare 2

There are some shotguns that we have seen, and so far they doesn't seem broken, but we'll wait to see how it is with all of the best attachments:

  • Lockwood 300 (725)
  • Bryson 800 (Mossburg 500)
  • Bryson 890 (Mossburg 590)
  • Expedite 12 (Benelli M4)

LMGs In Modern Warfare 2

The LMGs are probably going to be a bit more popular than most years in CoD, but not by much. At least, these LMGs certainly don't feel too strong:

  • RAAL MG (KAC LAMG)
  • HCR 56 (AUG H-BAR)
  • 556 Icarus (the M4 with a belt-fed receiver)
  • RPK
  • RAPP H (HK21)
  • SAKIN MG38 (M249)

Marksman Rifles In Modern Warfare 2

Marksman Rifles and Battle Rifles being in the same game might feel like a bit too much, but these weapons are really closer to snipers, while the actual sniper class in MW2 is reserved for the beefy anti-material rifles.

  • LM-S (PSG-1)
  • SP-R 208
  • EBR-14
  • SA-B 50
  • Lockwood MK2
  • TAQ-M (SCAR chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor)

Sniper Rifles In Modern Warfare 2

These weapons are the classic, .50 caliber monstrosities that should one-shot people no matter where you hit them:

  • MCPR-300 (SCAR chambered in .300 Win Mag)
  • Signal 50 (GM6 Lynx)
  • LA-B 330
  • SP-X 80

Melee Weapons in Modern Warfare 2

Well, at launch there is only one so far:

  • Riot Shield

Pistols In Modern Warfare 2

The pistols are used a lot because they're the only thing you can use while performing new actions like swimming or ledge-hanging. Thankfully, they're appropriately weak:

  • P890
  • X12 (Glock 17)
  • X13 Auto (Glock 18)
  • .50 GS (Desert Eagle)
  • Basilisk

Launchers In Modern Warfare 2

And last but not least, the return of some of old, familiar launchers:

  • PILA (Mk. 153)
  • Strela-P
  • JOKR (Javelin)
  • RPG-7

That's all there is to say about this aspect of Modern Warfare 2. If you want to jump into the game yourself to try some of these weapons out for yourself, you can find the best of them in our ranking that will be updated constantly. If you are unsure yet, read our Multiplayer review.
